So Mr. "I'm in it until the end" Romney has flip flopped and thrown in the towel? Good riddance. Time to head back to the compound to venerate the living prophet and diddle the youngins.

He's been flipflopping from the onset of his campaign; why should today be any different?

That has nothing to do with this thread.

It's sort of a shame things didn't work out for Romney. With McCain as the nominee, the democrats have a sure win for the white house.

              It's interesting really.
McCain has received 4.7 million votes so far, and Romney a little less at 4 million.
McCain got 13 states, and Romney 11. And yet McCain was able to pick up a whole lot more delegates and momentum.

Well, for the conservatives, they have three choices: vote for McCain and their own marginalization, "suicide vote" for Hillary/Obama, or bring in a suitable third party candidate to kill McCain's campaign.

A more moderate Republican party which returns to its traditional values and stops kowtowing to the extremists.

What exactly makes him a "joke nationally"?

Anyway, is it possible he quits so early (and ahead of Huckabee) because he sees a chance of becoming McCain's running mate?

Yes, the Republicans are becoming more liberal. The Democrats are becoming socialist. Who does that leave us with?

Romney's states were BS states like North Dakota and Wyoming and Montana, vs. McCain's California and Florida and New York.

What exactly makes either of the two Democratic candidates "socialist"? Even their universal health coverage proposals are market based utilizing private for profit health care companies.

The Republicans have stuck with "winner takes all" and McCain won the big states.

The fact that he abandoned pretty much everything he stood for three years ago to run for the Republican nomination. He exudes swarminess.

Anyway, is it possible he quits so early (and ahead of Huckabee) because he sees a chance of becoming McCain's running mate?
Whatever political upside it would have for McCain (and I don't see very much), it couldn't possibly compensate for the apparent mutual hate between McCain and Romney. The Dem rivalry is nothing compared to those two. It'd be a highly unlikely choice.
