What's easy is not always what's right.

Not all cops, nor their defenders, are understanding this. This is an issue.

The people here admit that after taking an oath to protect and serve the public, they'd taze people who are inconvenient to them -- they're not men, nor should they ever don a uniform. Some people just don't have the cajones to be a cop, and that's fine. Even a lot of cops - like the one in this video -- don't. I guess it' just a convenient paycheck for them.

It's most certainly force, and this is something only someone not ever tasered would say.

Some people don't have the decision-making abilities required to do the job. I'll agree with that statement.
I'll still maintain that the best option is for the civilian to do as they've been asked, whether they agree or not.
They're not being asked for their opinion, they're being asked to comply.

it is utterly unreasonable to think that an officer has the right to use a relatively high level of force on someone simply because they did not give instant compliance.

As I said before, this cop escalated the situation unnecessarily and placed himself an the people he is entrusted to protect in danger.

              • No, it's not. That's my point. Shut your damned mouth and do what you're told. It's people like you, with authority issues, that get tasered.

Jesus, some people have no common sense

Maybe you missed the point where I said investigating incidents like this are my job, and compared to some of the allegations I have investigated, this is peanuts. That said, I have in the course of my job interviewed hundreds of officers, some very good, some utter *******s. I would place this cop in the later category. A good cop would have shown patience. This guy is a damned highway patrol guy - what rush is he in?? A good cop would have gotten even an argumentative person to give them their license without anything more than their voice. This was bad police work.

Its funny though, you have a picture of the Alamo, and yet your motto is "Do as you are told!".

Did this guy not do what he's told?

Also, there's a point where you shouldn't have to comply. A great example for me is when the Provincial Police in Ontario harassed me because I fit their "profile" in that I was a young male driving a vehicle on a highway with **** in the back (I was moving). They pulled me over on the side of a very busy highway (the transcanada highway) and gave me a completely bull**** reason for pulling me over (I had a transparent license plate cover), then proceeded to unload my carefully packed vehicle onto the side of the busy highway -- opening up my suitcases, boxes, etc to ensure I wasn't smuggling drugs. After the hour of searching, they said "Have a nice day" and took off -- leaving all my **** unpacked, opened, and sprawled over the side of the busy highway.

Now, at the time I didn't want any trouble and I'd _no_ idea they'd do that ****, but believe you me -- the next time I get pulled over for a bull**** reason I will not comply and immediately call the family lawyer to advise on the situation.

The "shut up and do what you're told" doesn't work when the cop is abusing his power.

And why is tasering the appropriate response to people who won't cough up their license in 20 seconds? Tasers have killed people before. Is it really worth taking that kind of risk because you're the kind of cop who can't even be bothered to explain why he's arresting people?

Tasering is only appropriate if someone is an immediate risk, not if he is a whiner.

                        • Slow you're being preposterous.

Just because someone is a police officer does not make his word sacred and does not absolve him of the need to deal with people in a manner which defuses a situation, when it can.

Israeli soldiers at checkpoints, who are constantly in enemy fire range and are often the target of even suicide attacks, do not shoot at people because they were too slow to follow orders.

If the officer was truely threatened, then even pulling out the taser and threatening him would have been "enough" to secure the officer's life.

I've guarded a couple of places where they had arab workers from the territories. They could have easily come some morning, bearing a grudge and wanting to shoot me.

I was responsible for operating the gates and checking everyone's ID cards and work permits.

And I went out of my way to be as corteous and as least demeaning as I could. I intentionally put my M16 behind my back so that it wouldn't point at anyone, even though it would take me more time to get into position.

Some of the workers were definitely bigger than me, they came in huge groups (and I was alone) in 5 am, and most of them didn't speak hebrew and were pretty annoyed when I checked their licenses and were even argumentative.

But they are living people. They have the right to get moody and be argumentative. And I, as a guard, bear a responsibility to take a possible risk, and not draw my gun in every situation.
