Much as I wanted to like the finale, it sucked monkey testicles.
Really, how much of the human population would be willing to completely throw away every bit of technology to start over at a stone age level. What advantage would be gained from this? It might be ideal at first but once people start dying of dysentery, getting mauled by bears, and having an average lifespan of 28 years, they would wish for modern medicine, technology, and weapons.
And my understanding is that they eventually married these proto-humans to form the humans of "today". How likely is it for these colonists from a highly advanced civilization would intermarry and form new families with these proto-humans who probably look very different, have no language skills and very basic ideas of tool building?
What the hell are centurions supposed to do? To me they always seemed like soldiers devoid of higher functions and now they are off to build a new civilization?
Also, the finale mentioned that there when two base stars jumped away from the colony, they discovered their attack point. Presumably there are still enemy base stars roaming the universe?
To me this not a grand story arch but an attempt to make **** up as the as story line progressed and use "god's plan" as an explanation for every strange instance in the series.

Great (looong) interview with Ron Moore:
I like this about Starbuck:
MR: I know that you don’t let yourself be guided by what you think the fan reaction might be, and you do what you feel is right for the show, but the ending of Kara – her just disappearing like that. That’ll certainly be a starting point for debate.
RDM: Oh yeah, it’ll be controversial. There will be people who will absolutely hate it and think that we failed in our mission. We debated it in the [writers] room, I thought about it a long time, and I had sort of the same answer. And the more I struggled to give definition to it, the less satisfying it became. There various avenues we went down, discussions, saying she’s specifically this or that. And every time it felt uninteresting and kind of pedestrian.
It felt like, if she’s truly connected to the Eternal, if she’s connected to this other power, this other thing in the universe, as long as you know she’s connected to it and she’s fulfilled her destiny, brought us to this place, brought us to two Earths, really, that’s enough. That should just be left to your imagination, left to your inquiry, left you to try to fill in the blanks we leave. That was my answer and I’m sure -- I know – people will debate it“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

What, you think they introduced the Gods and the One True Cylon God just for ****s and giggles?
And according to the interview I linked, RDM says he had the idea for Six walking through Times Square a "long time ago", and you know, from reading stuff from RDM in the past that he'll admit if he just made something up.Last edited by Imran Siddiqui; March 21, 2009, 16:23.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. This is sooo hard to react to!
The first part was pure awesomeness with many little great moments. The final moments for these characters were wonderful as well - some were happy endings, some were sad, top-class stuff. But I feel the the "angels" angle was a very cheap cop-out. I can see why Moore chose to make Starbuck a Messiah-like figure. But that's anti-climactic. After all the buildup to some revelation, that just doesn't work. I mean, what they said at the end of the show is, she had a destiny and was resurrected for it. But that's really the same that we already had at the start of the season. And while Starbuck jumping the ship was an amazing scene, seeing Earth appear didn't have the same kind of emotional impact like the first time they found Earth, the "original" one.
And so the virtual Six and virtual Baltar are just messengers from God. Which isn't even explicitly said. We've known for a few episodes that Baltar is the only human to see these - other than him, they've only appeared to Cylons. Not that it was very bad, but that had more potential.
The message at the end was kinda interesting... but a happy ending for Battlestar? Really? That's probably the most unexpected thing!Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

Oh sure, they could have taken Laura to the "Grey Havens" for her last trip to the Undying Isles, and then as head Six and head Baltar began to lead her away head Six would turn to Starbuck and Starbuck would begin to move forward. Then Lee would blurt out "what does this mean?" Starbuck would just look back at him and say with a smile "Some wounds just never heal, Lee - you know, like the fatal ones." Then she'd leave with head Six and head Baltar.
They could have done that - but it would have been wrong.
Oh, and what happened to the last Raptor? Imagine what an archeological wind that would be."I say shoot'em all and let God sort it out in the end!

From that interview...
MR: I think they gave where people ended up more weight. I actually got emotional when Baltar said, "You know, I know about farming." I don't think that would have had the same impact had we not seen him with his dad.
Yeah, that was a brilliant moment. That's why I liked what they did with the characters. They created satisfying endings for them and that moment by Baltar came a long way towards showing how he's changed.
But it really was a happy ending. Didn't even have the main characters die before the end. Except for Roslin obviously, but that death was very much expected.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

I will admit, I liked seeing the background of the characters, how there choices made them one of the lucky few survivors, and their emotional farewells.
I wouldn't call the ending happy though... I don't know there is something very melancholic about societal/civilization collapse and forgotten people when mixed with time travel. I got the same feeling when I read The Time Machine by H.G. Wells. It's just sad to think that all those achievements, historical figures, and past glories of humanity are forgotten and destroyed with time.
