Wow, he blathered on about the problem of evil and things he's being orignal. What an idiot

My favored tack just thinking how the **** can people take a Holy Book seriously that contains stuff like:

Ezekiel 23:20 There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.

2 Samuel 3:14 Then David sent messengers to Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, demanding, "Give me my wife Michal, whom I betrothed to myself for the price of a hundred Philistine foreskins."

Psalm 137 8-9 O Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us-he who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.

How people can mistake that sort of stuff for the word of God I'll never know...

I'm not sure if you're trolling, but the "word of God" you cited there is two descriptions of the actions of human beings and one lamentation of exiles in captivity. I don't get it.

Perhaps I am trolling a bit, but this is supposed to be THE Book some ultimate font of wisdom and then it goes on and on with obsessions over dick size and infantile revenge fantasies, which makes it hard to take seriously.

Maybe you can make it make sense, I'm willing to listen you're the only person who's ever explained faith in a way that made any sense at all to me...

I think that christians have made the Bible too much some kind of a Quran. The Bible is not a book filled with wisdom and Gods literal words. (notice, I don't say that Gods literal words aren't in there, but it's not like every page contains God's own words)

Most of the Bible contains the acts of man. It shows how even the 'of men of God' committed the most cruel acts. It all takes place in an environment of 'eat or being eaten'. We know now, ie, that the Canaanites, in example, burried their children alive under the doorstep to please the gods.
Many (sexual) deseases brought the avg age below 25 years.

It's in that environment where God picks up his own people, guides them through the horrors, and indeed orders them to whipe out a race of people completely. The Canaanites had to be whiped out, in example. That sounds pretty hars and cruel, and maybe it is. But it's also a very nessecary thing to let his people survive in those days. And to bring salvation to all those horrors in the end.

The Bible is not Gods Word, Jesus Christ is Gods word. Paul says that it's not the letter but the spirit that brings justice. The Old Testament shows that the coming of Jesus was needed. And the Israelites weren't better then the other people, they ask for hate and revenge in their prayers to God as well. Likewise christians today aren't better either.

The Bible is not the book that tells us that christians or jews are better people. It morely shows that humanity is horrible. It's the child sacrefices in the days of old and the women who are forced into prostitution in our days. Not to mention the unborn children who were murdered before they saw the light of day.

The Bible is not a manual on how to live the pefect life. It's more the book that learns us that we can't live the perfect life, no matter how hard we try, because we are corrupted in our core. God's plans are not to fix this world, but to renew the world. And only those who want to be renewed can come on that new world, otherwise the old people will corrupt the new world, as we have corrupted the old world.

By donkey, presumably size-wise, not aroma or hairiness.

              Otherwise, been there, done that.

People take the bible too literally. Faith is about belif in God... not about how much you read the bible or go to church. People, frequently, try to justify life with numbers, facts, and concrete evidence. But I dont work that way. i have my faith, God has taken care of me, and I dont read the bible or go to church. I have given my soul to God. All the things I do and my code of ethics all STEM from the Bibles core teachings, like the Sermon on the Mount. But even then one must be careful not to take the words and teachings too literally. One must also remember that the bible has been translated countless times into different languages. One word can make ALL the difference in the translation especialy to skeptics who dissect everything to prove a point... especially the point to where God dosent exist. Sometimes though... one must have FAITH. just put down the book and stop listening to the preacher and think to yourself... "DO I HAVE FAITH? Faith in myself? Faith in God?"

When i think of people, and listen to people, that try to prove the existance of God wrong.. the first thing they do is dissect the bible. they pick a verse here or a verse there and say "SEE?!? THIS IS WRONG!!" or "THIS IS A FALLACY!! IT CONTRADICTS WITH THIS!" I say who ****ing cares! God didnt write the bible... human beings did. Yes the bible has some good teachings... and also some things that dont make sense... but it all boils down to how much faith do you have? if you died RIGHT NOW, would you go to heaven... if God did Indeed exist? I ask you, friends, is YOUR soul prepared?

Well mine is. I live my life around my faith in God. To try to point at the bible to shake MY faith, or the faith of others, is silly and sad. sometimes it straight up pisses me off. But i am a humble man (most of the time ) and i do my best to be fair and objective. but this is a subject very personal to me, and forgive me if i seem to go on and on... but it is important to distinguish the difference between what a book says... and what lies in your HEART. THAT is all that matters to God. That and your FAITH... PIECE

Spec.. it is obvious your faith has been shaken. but faith is a belief in something without logical proof. there are too many instances in my life, where i should have fallen on my face... HARD, and i believe that intervention from God is the only way to explain my survival of those unfortunate circumstances.

that COULD be true Spec... but it also could not be. As smart as scientists are, i have yet to see any concrete proof as to why God DOSENT exist. And even if they DID find proof somehow... i would still believe. Thats how strong my devotion and faith is. What if, just for an extreme hypothetical circumstance, i AM right?

I'm sorry, but the Bible doesn't try to answer unanswerable questions, like all pagan religions do.
In the Bible God creates nature, but nature itself isn't explained.

In pagan religions the gods are a part of nature, but just have higher powers. The God of the Bible is not some superhuman being that trows lightnings from the top of a mountain.

I agree, gods are used to explain unexplainable things, but you can't put that label on the God of the Bible.

Its not shaken, I have no faith. I have faith in cells, and energy they produce and need. Once you die, your dead. Thats it, just like a tree...or a cell.
Also, I ''almost'' died twice. I even died for 4 minutes on the operation table, but came back. There is no white light or tunnel or anything. You wake up, and thats it. People tell you you died and you go ''Really?...wow, lucky me'' God didn't save my ass, blood transfusions did, and my will to live. Period. And if god was that kind and all, I wouldn't have had that tumor in the first place (Because adam ate the apple... ) A cell ****ed up probably because of chemicals or something in the environment, multiplied at the same place which created a mass.

                          That's the problem right there.

You're right its not. It's easier to say it has been created in 6 days. This way, they can skip the details so people do go ...

Well, I'm a Christian and an avowed Theist, but I respect intelligent people regardless of religious persuasion, including atheists/agnostics. I do not think this video was made by an intelligent atheist though. There are plenty of intelligent anti-god arguments, but this guy stuck with the dumb ones.

Saying that there is no God because he doesn't heal all amputees immediately is the same as a Christian saying that there IS a God simply because there is life on the earth, or a sun in the sky.

Simply put, there's more to it than that. This guy's just trying to provoke people/get attention.

thats truly amazing... near death experiences are fascinating to me, and to have somebody tell me there is no miracle that happens when you die is astounding. but perhaps, maybie, you werent gone "long" enough? i dont know Spec... im not going to sit here and make excuses and conjecture about things, but your story is truly incredible

i suppose that might be a problem. i might be totally wrong, foolish, and stubborn. but my belief in God is just not going away, even if i wanted it to. I do believe there is a heaven... and that if it does indeed exist, i AM going there. better to be safe...
