  • I don't, really. These people are obstensibly pro-life. I imagine the vast majority were set off overnight, when nobody would be there.

When did this become about fatalities, btw? We were discussing bombings and/or obstruction, which is more analogous (though still more extreme) to the subject of this thread than murder.

    • You mentioned that the really angry ones bomb clinics.

That's where this whole thing came in.

Then you mentioned doctors being shot and people being killed in clinics.

I'm not sure why you brought up either or why either is really relevant to the issue at hand.

      • Oh, ffs.

Kuci and I were taking things to more and more absurd lengths in our mockery of this strike.

Kuci brought up abstructing abortion clinics. We had been doing the "anger" thing. So I put the two together and mentioned the most extreme action I could think of involving anti-abortion attacks on abortion clinics, namely firebombing them.

        By the way:

        1) Did I say something untrue?
        2) Did I accuse you of anything?
        3) Did I tarr and feather Christianity in general?

What, exactly, has got you on the warpath about this?

Picket lines must continually move and must not deliberately impede the flow of traffic into and out of a business.

Is that why you have to cross the picket line in order to get in? Any strike I've seen tries to shut the business down by asking folks to respect the picket line.

There's a difference between moral and physical pressure, son.

Asking somebody to not shop at a car dealership on a weekend because it's wrong ( ) is different than scratching up the cars of customers (or employees) who enter the dealership.

                        • In defiance of a court injunction, the protesters attempted to block customers from entering or leaving the car lot.

Fifteen police officers pushed them aside. But that didn't stop protesters from scratching the sides of at least two demonstrator cars in the process, said Samir Hajjar, manager of used car sales at the Pie IX Dodge Chrysler 2000 dealership.
I presume those are the cars on the lot, not the cars the customers are driving to the lot.

                          • Sounds like it. Which is also wrong. Picket lines are not allowed to smash store windows. Also:

In defiance of a court injunction, the protesters attempted to block customers from entering or leaving the car lot.

PICKET LINES CANNOT SIMPLY STAND IN THE WAY OF CUSTOMERS ENTERING OR LEAVING.

That's illegal. I've never yet crossed a picket line, but I have seen others do so, and while they had to deal with a couple of people asking them to respect the line, I've never seen anybody actually blocked physically from entering.

                            • I don't see that I've been terribly stupid here. It's a question of perspective - as much as I'm not moved when a corporation in difficulty fires 5,000 persons, I'm not when a bunch of angry dudes scratch a car and push people around in a driveway. It's you guys' indignation at something so trivial, and, when you think of it, natural, that I find 'stupid'. 'Indignation-mongering' in the media is much more dangerous than a rock thrown at riot police ever will.

I've been around when things got bad with the police - a few times - and as passionately infuriated I may have been in those occasions, I ended up rationalizing the stuff afterwards - this is how society works anyway. What I truly condemn is how resentful the common man is against anything out of the 'ordinary' (bodily pain is definitely a prime contender here). Grow some balls. Being pushed around in a driveway is not tragic.

What I see here is a general tendency of people pussying out. How badly disturbed can you be if you're arguing about your 'right' to buy a ****ing piece of **** so that can clog the highway to Laval a bit more? "But I have to work and grab my daughter at kindergarten on weekdays!" Yeah buddy, be an alienated tool of the market and then pass on your alienation to another bunch of losers like you, who thankfully will be helping the GDP, working on Sundays, and not breed children into reading Plato under a tree a Sunday afternoon, because time is money.

Don't get me wrong - I don't give a **** if the guy wants to sell cars on Sundays. It's some people's defence of consumerism as some sort of postmodern neoliberal Gospel that I find - profoundly - pathetic.

Corporations are allowed to fire people. Competitors aren't allowed to use threats of violence to try and shut down more efficient businesses.
