At a guess I'm somewhere in the 160-170 range.

      Again, I don't believe that it's a meaningful number.
Dear me, at this rate I'm going to start believing you to be a sensible poster

      • This thread disproves Siro's silly suggestion that there are only 20 regular posters here.

        • Also, I was refering to when they get there - Oxbridge has higher entrance requirements than anywhere I'm aware of.

You forget his preceding assumption that if there are more than 20 posters, only 20 are real and the rest are DLs .

Actually both work. As you could say:
"Oxbridge has higher entrance requirements than anywhere that I'm aware."
And it's becoming increasingly correct to omit "that" whenever the sentance still makes sense, even in formal writing.

I edited in an additional comment.

And as for "much" that depends what you mean. 175 on a test with SD=15 is ~ one in a million.

By the way, psychiatrists dispute their own ability to accurately measure "IQ" beyond the ~4sigma (160 on Stanford Binet) level.

                            • Yes, I know. The only benefit I've found of having a high IQ so far is I get paid to be tested upon by cute female psychologists who are doing research of final-year dissertations on such things. Seemed quite interesting. What I meant though is that while the measurement above 160 or so is not entirely accurate, it is still measureable to a reasonable degree of accuracy. A 171 may not be higher than someone with a 170, however a 175 is still almost certainly a higher true IQ than someone with a 170. Much above that nothing can be said. The difference between a 200 and a 190, for example is often entirely subjective, and flips around when doing different tests.

I'm not saying hes wrong, indeed, his sentance may be *more* correct, however both are permissable, even in formal writing, and especially on the internet.
