I'm pretty sure that you don't know anybody who's gotten higher than 155 on a test which only runs to 155.

Also, the SATs were done when I was 15, and measurement error is +/- 40 points or so, so I'm not particularly impressed. 1600 on the SATs is not very difficult.

I do know people who are actually smarter than me, so I wouldn't be surprised if you did too.

This set of instruments for measuring quality is so bourgeois, it's embarrasing.

I've had the pleasure of knowing and working with people who did badly at their A-levels because they were too busy messing with computers, or motorbikes, or girls, or drugs, or family breakdowns to get their straight A's - or any A's, or even passes, but have gone on to be programmers, or project managers, who have delivered market-leading products in their fields.

They may not even have had the chance to do A-levels because they'd been written off as incapable by their teachers at 16. They may have lived in an era where a working class background prohibited a University degree, however many A's they got at A-level. I've known people with Oxford 1sts who failed in the real world.

Fair dues and credit to Oxbridge high flyers - or from similarly prestigious insitutions around the world, they have registered strong accomplishments - but they do NOT have a monopoly on excellence or intelligence. Excellence by one set of rules, yes, but other roads to realisation and application of intelligence are available.
