I don't see what the point of your question is. Both are significant occurances that need to be addressed. Both are significant because they affect the opinions of large blocks of voters. To ignore either of them is a mistake. To sit there and quantify them is ridiculous. They both matter.

Shouldn't Kerry share some of the blame, seeing as he voted for the war?

Ogie - I like Kerry's 'clarification'. Where is the additional harm in those words?
His clarification would have a snowballs chance of being genuine had he not spoken this as advice to college students on the meaning of education and the ability to personally succeed. No the meaning was clear. Apply yourself in school or you have the enviable career choice of being stuck in Iraq.

I like his response to how critics have attacked his comments. Kerry fell back on the whole, "This is just how the Republican attack machine works."

Yes John. The Republicans made you say those things. Sorry, but the Republicans aren't attacking you, they are attacking your dumbass comments. This time you can't use that excuse.

John Kerry needs to go away. Every time he opens his mouth he hurts the Democrats. And now this... a week before the Congressional elections?

It's like he is bitter about losing and he wants to take the party down with him.

I will always find the musings of one in power to be more important/relevant.

Why? The other party still matters. And in a little over a week, they could very well take back Congress.

IMO, it's silly to worry about which is more important or relevant. It's all relevant. Period.

Sorry, I didn't realise Kerry was on the ballot this time out. You're right, what he thinks is crucial.

                        He's a US Senator.

                        His comments garner national attention.

They influence public opinion towards the Democratic Party.

He was considering a run in 2008.

All of these things are factors. Again, you can ignore them if you want. But although John Kerry is a massive douche, he is still relevant.

But you believe what you want.

Voting for the war isn't much of an issue. Lots of people supported the war initially, as they bought into the "shock and awe" bull**** (how long has it been since we've heard that one? ), the "Saddam is the root of all evil" hype, and people were frankly willing to give Bush the green light on any raghead stomping.

Now, we're four years later in a war that's stagnating, and a lot of the assinine remarks about the "desperation" of the insurgents, etc., can be hung on Bush and the Republicans.

So McCain is either not terribly bright either apparently. That or building and attacking strawmen is just too fun to resist.

And how is that an insult to every soldier in Iraq? All it says is that some of them didn't have any other choices as a result of ****ing up in life. To claim it implies anything all the troops in general is a logical fallacy.

Isn't it though? Personal attacks and repetition until people believe stuff.

That being said Kerry should shut up and let someone more eloquent talk.

I never said 'ignore' him. Please don't put words in my mouth.

What Bush says (and does) is infinitely more important than what a failed candidate like Kerry says. If we are talking motivation there should be no comparison betweeen the two.

Maybe Kerry is relevant - just not as relevant as a sitting president.

But you believe what you want.

Except for the fact that the government in Iraq doesn't want the involved nations to leave...for another year.
