What's wrong with that? I prefer the concept of the "marketplace of ideas." Say what you want to say, listen to what others say. The best idea will show through.

But good job making assumptions regarding my personal beliefs based on the little flag icon next to my name

Yeah, bit a stretch there - sorry about that!

But if you were a Hindu calling atheists douches, then my point would have stood...

I guess it's just my natural revulsion of religious missionaries shining through...

I sense quite a lot of insecurity there.

You're the ones who have so much of your self-worth wrapped up in inflated views of your own intelligence and logical abilities that you feel the need to belittle the faith of decent, religious people in order to prove you're better than those "sheep". And you think I'm the insecure one?

Nope, just the arrogance of the certainty that we are right!

I grew up immersed with good, wholesome, decent religious folk. I have nothing against the vast majority of them; in fact, they comprise the majority of my friends and family. My respect for them doesn't mean that I'm going to force myself to remain silent, though.

I have no insecurity whatsoever about it. I just think these people have not been equipped with the necessary intellectual tools to decide - lack of education, indoctrination from an early age, etc. There are many lovely people who are inspired by their belief, but I think their belief has been misplaced.

And why this massive anti-intellectual rant? Why not embrace knowledge rather than dismiss it in the manner you have done? It is reflecting on you, not me...

This is the motive behind my second post. You've seen where these threads end up. See the minor lynchmob that turns up whenever anyone threatens their little worldview...after all, how could their faith possibly be wrong?

Drake, we were quite happy talking with ourselves about these things. No one asked you to turn up and start getting all defensive on us. So why did you bother? Why come here to attack that which you don't understand?

You don't have any more knowledge about god than anyone else does. It's the height of arrogance to think that you're so damn educated and intelligent that you can know the unknowable...

No one's stopping you from continuing the circle-jerk via PM...

I understand you and your views fine, which explains why I might find you a little pathetic and worthy of my quality derision.

Because by clinging to ignorance, he doesn't have to question his beliefs, and the dangerous uncertainties that may bring - it is the insecure that need the crutch of organised religion to keep them safe...

What is there to know? There isn't one iota of evidence for the existence of a God, so why even contemplate it as a rational theory. That is the essence of the matter.

And I am pretty damn educated and intelligent, thankyou very much...call it arrogance if you will...but it is just sounding like plain envy on your behalf.

Yep. Those Bible and Koran thumping folks who go out there and tell us they have all the answers and that they got them from these single tomes are trully arrogant.
