I also sort of like destroying the Pegasus. You can't have the protagonists pull off stunts like this without a sacrifice. Pegasus was the sacrifice this time. I wonder what they'll do with all the naval officers now, although if Galactica was on a skeleton crew, they'll probably fit all in. Lee's a Commander without a ship now, though.

And I too was certainly getting an homage vibe out of Baltar ending up with the Cylons (although that was the natural thing to happen, with the Colonials he'd be out the airlock right away) and the Pegasus getting destroyed. I expected them to lose the Pegasus in Resurrection Ship, and then in Lay Down Your Burdens, but it took them this long and I didn't even expect it this time. I did expect Lee to come to the rescue, but losing Pegasus was a kick in the gut. Gotta love those bagpipes.

I think there are only about 20k to 30k humans left, 40k tops. I hope we'll see the whiteboard back and maybe even the count in the intro.

Oh yeah, and despite overwhelming evidence and rules of logic, when Gaeta pulled that gun, I was waiting for him to shoot Baltar only for us to see him download.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

It would've been a real sacrifice if they'd killed Lee and Dualla along with the Peggy, this still felt a bit like a reset to me (it was certainly a bit cheesy and overdramatised the way it went down), if a damn good one

I wonder when the episode to "shrink Lee's waistline" will be upon us?

I am going to miss Adama's mustache though .

Adama's moustache was an abomination! I much prefer it this way. I like the symbolism here - as the people are gearing back up from the Caprica trip, no longer settled down or docile, they're looking after their appearance again - Adama combing his hair and shaving, Tyrol shaving, Tigh will probably shave unless he's not put on active duty (it'll be interesting what'll happen to him, I guess Lee'll be XO), Lee will probably lose weight.

Oh, and I sooooo want Tigh to increase his badass factor through the roof by getting a pirate style black eyepatch. THEY MUST DO IT!

            Bah... too much 'reset' stuff.

It says "Dixon China Marker" on the pens on the plotting table in the CIC, by the way.

I just keep watching the part at around 20 minutes when Galactica materializes in the atmosphere. It's such a brilliant scene! Not only are the effects spectacular, it feels like they really put some thought into this. Not only is the ship in flames as it should be, it makes a very satisfying sonic boom when all the air rushes in as it disappears and all that is left is a shell of fire which quickly dissipates. It's so beautiful, daring, and very very risky.

It's also great in that they really use the FTL drive to its potential: it's not just a convenient plot device to get people from A to B, it's a technology with a lot of applications, also in military tactics. Also, the music kicks ass. The part in that scene of what is probably one long piece like Prelude to War is based on Battle on the Asteroid from season one (episode Hand of God).

That scene really was one of the best scenes I've seen in television. I can't wait until it comes out on DVD, so I can see it in HD

I think agathon is the XO. Lee isn't likely to be degraded in rank even though hes got no command.

It's also great in that they really use the FTL drive to its potential:
we've yet to see why the colonials stopped using(but not stopped building) ftl drives, they seem quite reliable.
Also did the jump kill the velocity the ship built up during its fall?

Asher isn't going to be happy .

Though it does seem to be a glut now at the top. I am curious as to Lee's status now. I think Helo will step down in deference to Lee, but there is a potentially interesting change in power structure there.

                        • FTLs use a lot of tylium, I imagine, they don't want to use them all the time. Besides, whenever we see the fleet in space, it's usually between jumps.

Agathon is the XO, but he's only a Lieutenant. On the other hand, I think they had Kelly, who's a Captain, as the Tactical Officer (and thus below Agathon) on the Galactica, so who knows what will happen. But the structure is very top heavy. I too doubt Lee will get demoted, but he's really out of place now. I doubt Gaeta will be back in uniform, so at least he won't be sticking in.

Funny how Lt. Agathon is still Helo to just about everyone. Maybe it's better now that we have two Lt. Agathons.

What comes to velocity, well, luckily they didn't show us the Galactica jumping back in space so we can't blame them for getting it wrong - but it would make sense, because as far as I recall, so far ships have retained their velocity after a jump.

I was also wondering about the forces affecting the crew of the Galactica during the atmojump, but realized that since they already have artificial gravity, everything related to that is a nonissue.

                          • I could see Lee returning to the position of CAG, even though his rank is quite high for that. Especially if he loses weight. With the fighters of both Pegasus and Galactica, they'll have a lot of them to work with, so having a higher ranking officer running the combined fighter fleets would be feasible.

I loved Ron Moore's reaction to this scene: "We'd better win the f*cking Emmy this year, I swear to God!"

That was my first thought, but then I realised Lee hasn't flown a fighter in over two years by now and in Galactica's world at least the CAG always seems to be one of the pilots. Not sure if you'd want to put someone that's both mentally and physically as bent out of shape as Lee is in a cockpit and in a command position at the same time.
