All heard in the episode was a burst of gun fire, and a small one at that.

Second, the whole "life scanner" thing is pure conjecture. They may, or may not.

Yeah, of course you just heard a burst of gun fire and then the show ended. If they actually opened fire on the group, they would have gone from person to person shooting them again to make sure they were dead (if they were supposed to be all dead).

I'd be HIGHLY disappointed if it was another cliched the hero pretended she was dead in a mass of shot people. Hell, in that case just say a James Bond villian is running the Cylons.

We know Roslin lives, so what the hell is the point of arguing about her non-death?

My guess, the shooting starts, Roslin is saved from being killed outright, and then something happens that draws the attention of the Centurions away.

Of course the shooting could be the NCF deciding enough is enough and there is only so far they are willing to go (and then the Cylons start firing at them instead of the prisoners).

Given the circusmtances, that might be what saves Roslin, but I assume that most of the group in the trucks gets killed, just not Roslin, hopefully not Zarek.

In the crossfire, I'm sure a bunch of the prisoners get killed. Though not too many before the trucks turn and run... and then they get found by the resistance & Galactica forces.

What Galactica forces? Sharon and the resistance is pinned by Centurions.

As for your scenerio, while that might be the reason Centurions are distracted, I doubt the Cylon would given the NCP guns with ammo powerful enough to take out Centurions, and if we recall from season 2, it takes a fair amount of firepower to take them out.

I would venture to say perhaps Caprica Six or Galactica Boomer find a way to stop the execution, and that saves Roslin.

They may be 'pinned' by one of them, but I figure they'll get out of it eventually. They aren't going to be stuck in the woods until the series ends .

I guess we'll have to see exactly what the NCP has been given. The Cylons haven't exactly made the smartest decisions since taking over New Caprica as occupiers.

And yes, the good Cylons may have done something (like fill the guns with blanks ).

                    Just throwing this out there:
What if the execution site is nearby the resistance's rendevous site, that the gunfire we hear as Cally is running for her life? Could the executioner/Cylons be drawn away be the sudden gunfire that ISN'T coming from their guns? Alternate angle, could Saul's wife Ellen have intentionally given the Cylons the wrong meeting coordinates, that the Centurion that begins to fire upon Sharon et al was on its way to/patrolling the exection site when it found her and her group?

That is kind of like my #5. I considered it to coincidental, but your first theory could work. The machine gun fire comes from close to the execution site, but not from those Centurions.

Most pwned human in the history of existance. Though it was nice to see him struggle with signing the execution order, having, literally, a gun to his head. It really would have been shocking if they pulled the trigger, but Baltar is such a good character, you don't want to waste him.

The only misstep was the spoiler-laden preview of the season after Precipice. I really would have preferred not to see that, it's not like I need a bunch of spoilers rubbed in my face to make me watch the rest of the season. I would have stopped watching but I heard "a preview of the next episode".

But wow, what utter awesomeness. I'm with the theory that the gunfire heard is actually the NCP.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

Would the NCP have armor piercing/explosive rounds capable of killing the centurions, and who gave them the weapons?
