The whole proportion discussion is useless.
GePap is right. For years Israel has been worried from the accumulation of missiles and power by the Hizballah. What we have now is a combination of an obvious casus belli and rookie Prime and Defense ministers who have already suffered a humiliation during the Gaza kidnapping.
To retain the obviously eroded Israeli deterrent power, Israel has to show that it's still the top dog in the region and now is a great opportunity to both do this and to at least try to kill the strategic headache called Hizballah.
It's not proportionate and it was never meant to be proportionate.
