No, biggest choke job . If the Cardinals hadn't lost all those games in the last two weeks, the Astros would have had no chance... no matter what they did.

Just because their luck ran out doesn't mean the Cards are choking.

I'd say losing the biggest lead EVER in September counts as choking, no matter how lucky you think they were.
Oh, and according to Pythagorean Record, the Cards haven't won as a result of luck, only being one win better than their projected wins and losses based on runs scored and allowed .

And one win better would put the Astros in the lead in the division.
You just proved my point.

Today's game has to worry you just a bit ... and piss me off that the 'sox couldn't win a COUPLE of more games... sigh ...
Well our last three are vs. the Royals (a team we are like 15-1 against) and the last three games the Twins have are vs. the White Sox. Decidedly in a slump now, but most definitely a better team than the Royals.
If we tie, then Detroit wins the division since we've beat the Twins head-to-head this season.
So I'm still optomistic we'll have the division. I'm still worried though. Right down to the wire.

That the Cardinals have choked it all away? To the point that their +1 from their Pythagorean Record is all that is keeping them from second place when 2 weeks ago, it would have merely meant they would be 7.5 games up?

Apparently Pedro is out for the entire postseason. Though, trying to put a good spin on it the Mets went 11-12 in game he started this season, 82-53 in all the rest. So it wasn't like he was integral to their winning this year... though the offense hasn't done so well this last month (although that may be because the divison was wrapped up long ago).

Who cares if you win the division? The point is, your "ace" just choked against the Blue Jays, who are a poorer team than either you're going to face in a five game series. That would worry me if I were you ... Not like the 'Sox last year, where they did somewhat poorly near the end but due to the fact that they were playing for their playoff lives, it sort of catalyzed them ... with y'all it looks like it might be a bit of a dive ...
Would not mind seeing the Tigers win the Series this year, though, don't get me wrong. If it's not the Sox ... better not be the Twins.

I dunno if Rogers is quite our "ace", I think that title goes more to Verlander. And from what I hear on other boards, people would prefer facing Oakland in the first around rather than the Yankees. So winning the division is still a goal worth going for.

Yikes, almost no hit by Daniel Cabrera. He was awesome last night. Control, Danielson, control! And it's too bad Rasner didn't pitch well. He's impressed me, and now it's likely that his last outing this season will be this (bad) one. Hopefully Torre & the rest of the organization remember the good work he did earlier, and don't bury him next year.
The Cardinals are choking a bit, but on the other hand:
- the Astros are on fire
- the Cards simply aren't very good
It's a bit 'o both (choking Cards and streaking Stros). Whatever. Go Astros!
Hey Imran...
Brandon Webb 231.0 IP 16W 7L 2.88 ERA
Roy Oswalt 220.2 IP 15W 8L 2.98 ERA
Chris Carpenter 221.2 IP 15W 8L 3.09 ERA
That looks like a pretty tight race to me. I would, in fact, still give it to Webb (more IP, lower ERA), but it's close enough that other considerations may sway some votes.
It'd be real funny if Carpenter wins it . But I think Webb pretty much has it. The NL has really slim pickings in terms of wins, and I think voters will want to pick someone who has the most wins. Even giving it to a 16 game winner looks bad, a 15 game winner is even worse.
And besides, Webb is over 10 points better in ERA+

Woah... I just saw your post about Pedro. Wow. I mean, I guess when I stop to think about it I'm not actually surprised (he's CLEARLY hurt - healthy Pedro doesn't throw 85 mph and get shelled), but still... wow.
So what's the playoff rotation? Glavine, El Duque (still love him, can't help it), Maine, Trachsel?
That's probably it. I hope Randolph puts Maine at 3rd in the rotation instead of Trachsel (young stud v. veteran), because Trachsel sucks. Hell, I'd rather have Heilman in the rotation over Trachsel, but I know that Heilman is very valuable in the bullpen.
