Jones pitched well, and Rogers looks good in relief.

Right now the Dodgers are tied while San Diego is beating down Arizona (and Webb did not have a good game at all.. one wonders how much his ERA rises for the Cy Young race).“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. huh, I would rather my team face the yankees in a 5 game series than a 7 game series. Either way, you're more likely to lose than win, but I have to think that it is easier to sneak out 3 wins than 4. I was hoping for a Minn-NYY matchup. Johanx2 would be interesting to see how it would shake out.

In the NL, New York vs. Los Angeles and St. Louis vs. San Diego. It's another interesting pair of series. The Mets have limped to the finish line and the Dodgers have a very good chance. The Cards also limped to the finish line, and finished 5 games behind the Padres, so I think the Pads should win that series.
As for facing the Yanks. The Twinkies may have rather faced off against the Yankees in a 5 game rather than a 7 game series, because of a man named Santana... but the Tigers don't have a dominating starter like that. True they have Verlander, but he isn't the same thing. The Tigers may indeed prefer a 7 game series because of their depth of their rotation with Robertson and Ledezma pitching pretty well (and having them behind Rogers, Verlander, and Bonderman).“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Well, the Phillies managed to end up three games back in the wild card race. What a pathetic last week of baseball they had. Hmph. Now to finish the house cleaning that started back in July... anyone want a left fielder who likes taking strike three looking and has recurring foot problems? At only $15 mil he's a steal.
But in other news....
I WON! I WON! City Hobgoblins took the title in Apolyton League fantasy baseball. I thought Berz might squeak by in the end... good season everyone! (I won't mention the fourth place Yuenglings in that other 'poly fantasy league)."Stuie has the right idea" - Japher

Wow, all this time I thought the Yanks would play the Twins.
Interesting. This being the playoffs and all, anything can happen. I feel like the Yanks match up well against the Tigers, but in a 5 game series...
Roberson is a good pitcher, and he will help neutralize some of the Yankees' best hitters (Damon, Abreu, Giambi, Cano, Matsui), which is especially key at Yankee Stadium, with the short porch. Wang is also a good pitcher, and the Tigers lineup is just the sort that he thrives on. I think game 1 will be a nail-biter.
I feel good about Moose in game 2 (against Verlander?). It's game 3 that I'm really worried about. RJ is gonna get pounded.

In infinitely more depressing news...
Ya'll see the names that have leaked out from the Grimsely affidavit?
Clemens
Pettite
Tejada
Gibbons
Roberts (!?)
Honestly, Clemens doesn't surprise me, and therefore I cannot be surprised about Pettite, who became Roger's shadow. I remember all the stories about how Andy joined Roger for his "legendary workouts" and that's why his fastball gained a couple of mph...
Tejada is certainly believeable. Gibbons... sure, why not? Roberts is a tad surprising based only on physique, but if you look at his stats...
They all deny it, of course.

I figure if you are 42 and having one of the best seasons of all time, there is something fishy going on. I've suspected Clemens for a while now.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. Oh, yeah, clearly you did see it.
...
BIG congrats to Joe Mauer on the batting title. He's also my pick for MVP (though idjit media think Morneau, the 3rd best candidate on the Twins, is the MVP). My votes would look like this:
Mauer
Jeter
Carlos Guillen (anybody notice this guy?)
Santana
Papi
Dye
I confess I'm not really sure where to put Johan Santana... he clearly (IMO) deserves consideration, but I'm just not sure how to judge him vis-a-vis the everyday players. There should probably be room for Grady Sizemore on my ballot as well...
...
Even though they fell short in the batting race, Jeter and Cano sure were fun to watch this year. Here's hoping they win something far more meaningful than a batting title.
Blue Jays finish 2nd, Red Sox 3rd, upsetting years of AL East tradition. Wow. The Red Sox really had a depressing August/September. Here's hoping they get healthy (especially Lester, damn).
Let's Go Mets! Let's get a Subway Series and make the rest of the baseball world miserable.
Failing that, Yanks/Dodgers would be cool, especially with all those ex-Red Sox on the Dodgers...
