  • And he probably does.

    Brandon Webb: 231.0 IP 16 W 7 L 2.88 ERA.
    Roy Oswalt: 213.2 IP 14 W 8 L 3.07 ERA

Both have start left. IF (and only if) Webb pitches poorly and Oswalt pitches great AND the Astros squeek into the playoffs, I could see him getting the Cy.

Most likely Webb will win. And, barring a truely stellar outing by Oswalt and a terrible one by Webb, that's the right choice.

      • One more thing, Imran. This is a good point:

ML (new york): Are Webb's Runs/Earned Runs unusually high? Wouldn't that be sort of a weird way to get the ERA award?

Rob Neyer: (2:09 PM ET ) He's given up 10 unearned runs, which is somewhat high. Oswalt's given up only three, Carpenter five. And yes, it does bring Webb back to the pack a bit.
Obviously, unearned runs are just that: unearned, and nobody pays much attention to them. But I figure a pitcher is *partly* responsible for them. The guy who made the error is mostly responsible (of course, occasionally that's the pitcher himself).

It's sorta like a case of two pitchers who pitched identically, but one guy had a great bullpen that cleaned up some messes for him and the other had a terrible bullpen that let in all his baserunners.

            • Um ... I'd say it's rather offensive, and not as a White Sox fan. As non-chicagoans I wouldn't expect you all to understand, but the racial/social tension in the city is not helped by the thoughts behind that shirt - namely that cubs fans are rich white kids and sox fans are poorer african-americans. It would be funny, if it weren't the case that so many north siders/cubs fans pretty much think that way in reality, not just in jest.

Must be made by the same folks who made the one where the teacher is talking to a Red Sox fan kid and asks "what would you do if your parents were as*holes?" and he answers "then I would be a Yankees fan."

I wonder if they have one for each team...

                            • 1/2 game seperating the two teams in the NL Central now.

Half game seperating the biggest regular season choke job in history.
