(my Danish is not that great, but I gather that Denmark joined 'Schengen' in 2001)

Nevertheless, do you disagree with the notion that at the moment Denmark (=gov't) is more busy to keep the nation away from the Big Brussel Burocratic Brother then to participate in the European Integration (tm)?
Yeah, time and memory are two mean *****es

You are quite right, since march 2001 we have been members.

Yes, I disagree. though mostly to your question. It is certainly true that neither gov, opposition or people as such are supereuropeans, but that doesn't mean that they are isolationists - they just think that there are are more important work to do than the deep integration that some countries want. Work such as improving the new members and preparing all those that are queuing up to join. After all, it was under danish supervision that the new batch got successfully in.

    Edit: removed stupid "n't"

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

[nitpick] was it 'thanks to' or 'despite' the Danish Chairmanship the Eastern European countries got in? [/nitpick]

'thank to' - the poles made a last minit panic in Copenhagen wich Anders Fogh & Co. sorted out. (don't ask for details )

to Denmark contributing to our european neighbours who longed for so long to join us

(personally I beleive in the obligation not let them down, even if it will cost us a euro or two (of which we have plenty))

          • Germany does not have free speech= they have not learned the lessons of wwII= send back "Bomber" Harris to teach them again.

"Saying most Catholics priests molest boys and showing Jesus do the same are vastly different things and would result in vastly different outcomes. Or Hell, look at what happened when a play had a gay Jesus."

Well lets look at what happened with the gay Jesus play...embassies burned? Number dead in rioting? C'mon Christians, you've got to catch up to muslim 'outrage'!
            "Wait a minute..this isn''t FAUX dive, it's just a DIVE!"

              • I have a small question that may have already been addressed: Remember the JCS protesting that cartoon of an amputated soldier? Were there as many people defending the cartoonist then as there are now defending these? I'm just kinda curious, for some reason I had the impression that most condemned it, but wouldn't restrict the cartoonist's right to do it...kinda just like now. What's the disagreement now over?

                  • I really don't know. That's why I don't get the whole "have the common sense not to print them" people - You think it's common sense - I and they think it's common cowardice. You want to outlaw that? no? If you want to do some protest, go on a demo. boycott the paper. ***** about it on the internet. That's your full right. WTG. What on earth are you doing in this thread?

                    • Well, the argument so goes that just because you have the right to do something, does that mean you should? I fully believe I have the right to say "all n*ggers are stupid and lazy," but I'm not going to because it's insensitive and wrong IMHO.

Although, I do agree that there should be peaceful demonstrations/protests. Unfortunately, it demonstrates a relative lack of political maturity/respect for the rule of law that this happens. Taken another way, however, it can be seen as a great step forward, since a few decades ago it would've been conceivable that the embassy would've been burned down or somesuch, no?

The implication is clear: Islam is a religion of bombers - sucide bombers, even. Sure, that's not all spelled out in the cartoon, but it's not too hard to see that message.

I saw the bomb in turban cartoon as more of a time bomb metaphor. A metaphor which says that like a bomb with a lit fuse the prophet represented something seemingly innocuous that led to something explosive. If as you claim the message was to obviously be that all muslims are terrorist suicide bombers surely the cartoonist would have drawn the prophet in a suicide bombers explosive vest. In fact I have seen that style of bomb used in many other cartoons with no connection for terrorism to imply that the thing symbolized with a bomb was part of a chain of a events that would erupt explosively.
