The mind that is preset to certain things, equipped with islamophobia will only find this article feeding his wild imaginatin about 1.4 billion people.

So for that sake only, I would have hoped to see a clear difference drawn between who does violence and threats with it, and who are just offended and do protesting and other reasonable things.
why do people keep dividing the muslim reaction into only two categories, those using violence and "moderates". The largest number of muslims in the islamic world, and quite a few in the west, are not using violence but are PEACEFULLY calling on Denmark and the West to impose censorship. Im glad theyre not engaging in violence, but I have a hard time seeing them as moderate in a way that will heal the rift, and I dont think they should be confused with the genuine moderates who also oppose censorship.

    • You mean why should a writer of article take the stupid people into account? Don't underestimate stereotypes, racism etc.

It's very easy when most news you hear about muslims is negative, especially in homogenic nations where encountering and interracting with a muslim is almost non-existent.

Do you think the peacefully demonstrating groups are getting more press than the violence using ones? People still choose to remember and believe what they like the most, even from the news. Thus they do have a responsiblity to try to portray the situation as objectively as possible, that means separating the violence users from the majority. Just because you and I know the difference doesn't mean many will.

Youre missing my point Pekka. It was largely directed at you.

"that means separating the violence users from the majority. "

I also want to seperate the majority who call for censorship but peacefully, from those who dont call for censorship. I think failing to do so, and implying that anyone who isnt torching an embassy or phoning in a death threat is a "moderate" and no problem is deeply misleading.

        • No, I knew it was for me

Of COURSE you can label several different stances. I choose to recognize two groups.

It's just a personal choice. The point is to AT LEAST separate the violent ones. If you want to identify more parties, that's just fine.

          • I have got the impression that several posters in this 1000+ posting thread (I consider the Apology thread as parts since LOTM's and Imran's discussions has made them so intertwined that only deletion can seperate them ) think that JP is some kind of extreme rightwing xenophobic hatespewing newspaper.

That is contradicted a little since the paper won a second place in the European Commission's Journalist Award 2004 about "For Diversity. Against Discrimination.“

left to right: Pascale-Marie Deschamps, Fritz Vannahme, Vladimir Špidla, Orla Borg, Shada Islam, Claude Moraes, Zita Kempf

On 2 May, Vladimir Špidla, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, officially awarded the three EU-wide winners of the “For Diversity. Against Discrimination.” EU Journalist Award 2004 at a ceremony in the press room of the European Commission in Brussels. The three finalists are the lucky winners of a study trip to an EU country of their choice. The first prize of the EU Journalist "For Diversity. Against Discrimination“ Award went to a group of four journalists from France.

The winning article "Are companies racist?" by the team Pascale-Marie Deschamps, Michel Derenbourg, Claire Aubé and Lionel Steinmann takes a frank look at racial discrimination in the workplace.

The second prize went to the Danish article “Bidragerne – Integrationsavisen” by Orla Borg published in the daily newspaper Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten, which particularly stands out for its straightforward and practical approach to a complex and controversial issue.

The Hungarian contribution “Befogadó nemzet” printed in the magazine Magyar Narancs by Zita Kempf was nominated for its very clear portrayal of the effects of the national anti-discrimination law in Hungarian society. All three winners were presented with a trophy and an official winners’ certificate by Commissioner Špidla.

            • Whether or not it's a right wing xenophobic paper, your link only refers to one article posted in the paper, and says nothing about the paper itself.

              • Fondue Party!!!!

"In the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, protesters smashed windows and burned Danish cheese as they vented their fury over the continuing controversy"

Normally Id recommend Gruyere instead, but since the prohibition on alcohol rules out a proper fondue, id suggest they go the grilled cheese route, and use American Processed Cheese Product. I would suggest trying it on whole wheat or even rye instead of white - its yummy!

I would also suggest that nice matzoh pizza is easy to make in the microwave, but perhaps wouldnt be appropriate here.

Whether a wife looks fat in a dress or not, is something of great concern to wives, and of minimal concern to husbands, so most sane men are willing to tell a white lie. If a man has to walk on eggshells about serious issues - if say his wife has been doing things that are seriously out of bounds, and he cant even joke about it - Id say thats a marriage whose days are numbered. Sooner or later he'll walk.

Not particularly an option in the case we're discussing.

That article is part of a series of similiar. Several schools found it so good that they wanted to use it in the eduction. It ended up as a 12 page tabloid format news.

You are of course rigth, that doesn't tell everything about it, but it could be taken as an indicator - it's rare that xenophobic papers write positive articles about good integration of immigrants.

When my dad was on his first business trip in the mid 50's, he bought a Danish cheese for Grandma on his way home. As he had travelled all the way from US in propeller aircraft, he was very jetlagged and just left his suitcase in the hall and went to bed. When he woke up, his sisters had unpacked his suitcase for him.
                        - But we threw the cheese away, because it was rotten!

What they didn't know was that the "foot sweat" smell is the way a Danish cheese should be...

                            • I'm surprised that no one has yet commented my report about the censorship of the SD web site.

It must be an extraordinary measure that a government agency in a Western democracy orders the closure of an official web site operated by a small and unpopular, but completely legal political party, in the name of "national security". I have never heard of it before, anywhere.
