IMO Oerdin is doing just fine. He has a good/decent job, owns a house (though he don't live in it), has supportive father, has the respect of his friend and countrymen for his service and random jaunts into Central America/Mexico, lives in San Diego, is a bachelor living it up... heck, what more do you want!? It helps that none of my friends (other than the very odd, messed up one I mentioned before) are significantly better off that we are (plus, given how much he's prone to bull****, I can't even be sure about his wealth). So we don't have somebody's financial success in our face all the time. Still, even if we did, such financial success often requires putting in hours at the office which would be unacceptable to me, which would remove or at the very least dull any envy I might have.
