I haven't kept up with any of my friends from high school. Of course, I only had 2. But I have no idea what they are doing now. I'm sure they are successful.

My general manager is the same age as me, and we grew up in the same city, and we both were class of '91. Sometimes I look at her, and think I should have went to college and done something with my life like her. She's no smarter than I am. But other times I just look at her, and I just want to **** her brains out. . I guess I'm reaching an age, where soon I will have bosses that are younger than me. But she's the same age as me, so that's okay.

My last job was a great paying job, but I quit. I hated it there. Everyone had a bad attitude. Right now, I work a job I'm overqualified for. But I love it. People here really seem to respect me. They think I'm so smart (no jokes about that statment please). It's nice to be valued for something.

Not that there aren't other, non-material ways to keep up with the Joneses. For instance, a particularly interesting life compensates well.

I must have left uni not long enough ago then. I have yet to envy my highschool friends.

Also, you want to fit into what society expects of you and sometimes that includes certain material things -- this is just human nature.

I guess being a youth corrupting communist with a PhD in Greek Philosophy who dresses like a homeless person and does his best to avoid popular culture means that I really want to fit into what society expects of me.
