Schwarzenegger also pointed out the brutality of the crimes, noting that Williams allegedly said about one of the killings, "You should have heard the way he sounded when I shot him." According to the governor's account, Williams then made a growling noise and laughed for five to six minutes.

In addition, the governor noted that Williams dedicated his 1998 book "Life in Prison" to a list of figures that included the black militant George Jackson _ "a significant indicator that Williams is not reformed and that he still sees violence and lawlessness as a legitimate means to address societal problems."

To me, Lethal seems like the most humane way to kill a person.

So uhm, yeah, my .02 is if the guy honestly didn't help authorities to stop the Crips, then he deserves it.

Actually if you had bothered to read the original post it had several points, racism being only one of them. Regarding the rants, it was the other guys who pushed it, I just educated them on it.

I just saw the word racism on a poster.

It really is ok to say that you oppose the death penalty on moral grounds without bringing up race which hasn't been shown to be a factor in this case.

You do the math

Remember that the death penalty doesn't cover all states. It would be interesting to see what the racial make up of the states which carried out the death penalty is especially since a disproportionate number of those states are in the south where the black population is highest. There likely isn't a huge racial disparity effecting blacks in the death penalty. At least not as large as some people are implying.

More likely it corrolates most strongly with social class and location (i.e. urban areas) instead of race though clearly more blacks live in poor urban areas then there are blacks in the general population.

Actually when you consider who is being sentenced to death, who is doing the killing and who is being killed it appears not that murderers who are black are being sentenced to death more frequently than white murderers, but instead that courts are less likely to hand out a death penalty for the murder of a black person.

Wouldn't that be juries are less likely to recommend the death penalty? I believe many states with the death penalty don't allow the judge to simply slap on the DP unless the jury first recommends it though the judge can choose to disreguard the DP and instead opt for life in prison. That's not all states of course but I believe it is several.

This is an extraordinary situation. I'm for the death penalty.
In this particular case, it's not his book writing or nomination for a Nobel. What makes me think it's not a smart decision is because of his being founder of the Crips.
Seems to me that if California were to use that fact in some way to reduce gang related crimes, that's pretty good.
NOW, take into consideration that he's a Nobel peace prize nominated author of children's books, that are required reading in some schools, and children view him as a hero, in the positive, I have to say at this late date, free Stanley "Tookie" Williams.

nevermind. The local news just said 2 hours. I have no idea why they alway kill them 1 minute after midnight.

Often the death warrant runs for 1 day from 1 minute after midnight to 1 minute after midnight the next day.

If some technical screwup interferes they want to have as much time to correct it as possible, so they make the first run as soon after midnight as they can manage.

If I ever get executed I want them to wake my ass up for it at sunrise after I go to bed at 3 am completely smashed.

That way when they put me down I'll be looking forward to it.

His crimes are vicious. While I'm wary of the state utilizing the death penalty. I have no problems with this piece of scum dying.
