  • What was that about the Western Conference being so much better than the Eastern, Asher?

A little birdie just told me that the top-ranked Western team went down to #11 in the East tonight

    • Oh, and number 5 in the West just dropped a game to #13 in the East...

Though if you count the fact that Nashville has 3 or 4 games in hand on most everybody else they look more like #3 in the West or so.

Man, the Western Conference sucks balls.

      • Didn't want to toot my own horn until it was official - but now that it is...

Booyah! - Shutout for Sanford! How's that for a pickup?!?

Detroit is overrated, they got their spot on the top because of a weak central division. They've sucked recently.

Western teams won something like 71% of the matchups between eastern teams.

          • I think I can say goodbye to all 3 goalie stats this week. You've started the week off with a 0.5 GAA, a 0.977 svp and 1 SO

            I've started off with a 3.0 GAA and a 0.914 svp

Yours aren't exactly crap stats, but yeah, I agree.

Anyone want to trade for Sanford or Esche? Looks like a few people need help on the backend, and most do not have very high waiver priorities...

                • Can't blame a guy for trying. Esche is better than he has played to date, and I do think St. Louis will rebound - a little bit.

                  • That Detroit game kicked the crap out of me. Shortly after they pulled Howard, I saw that Osgood had faced four shots - and made one save. Pretty impressive stuff.

Check out that line at the end of it:
                    Osgood - 6.65 .750
                    Howard - 7.79 .813

                    Sweeeeeeetness!

                      • I'll hang on for now. Osgood was 1.00 and .941 yesterday, and Grahame's been steady lately. Don't know if I can make up for this stinker this week, though.

                          • Defenceman Jamie Allison dressed as the back-up goaltender for Predators tonight.

In a bizarre game, the scheduled starter Chris Mason pulled his groin in pre-game warmups, which threw Brian Finley into the first NHL start in his career. Allison suited-up as his back-up and had to watch Finley give up seven Panther goals. Although it would have been nice to see Allison face some hot rubber, we think Nashville coach Barry Trotz was doing his best already from making this game a complete laugher.
Imagine what would've happened to stat systems everywhere if Allison had had to go in - kablooey!

                              Then again, he does nothing.

Oilers obtain Evans from St. Louis

The Edmonton Oilers have obtained forward Blake Evans from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for future considerations.

The Smiley, Saskatchewan native is currently with the Peoria Rivermen and will remain with the Blues' American Hockey League affiliate.

The 25-year-old has played in all 26 of the Rivermen's games this season and is currently ninth in scoring with four goals and seven assists for 11 points. He is second on the team in plus/minus at +6 and has registered 35 penalty minutes.

A ninth round draft choice of the Washington Capitals in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Evans began his professional career in 2001 signing with St. Louis as a free agent on April 11, 2001.

Playing the last four seasons in the St. Louis organization system with stops in Worcester and Peoria of the AHL and Peoria of the ECHL, Evans has scored 56-80-136 and has 125 penalty minutes in 279 career AHL games. He has added 2-3-5 and 12 penalty minutes in 16 Calder Cup playoff games.

With Worcester in 2003-04, he scored a career-high 21-23-44 in 80 games and was named the IceCats most valuable player.

Evans played five seasons in the Western Hockey League with Spokane, Tri-City and Regina from 1996-97 to 2000-01 and scored 120-163-283 in 337 games. He was named to the WHL’s East Division second all-star team in 2000-01 when he scored a career-high 52-50-102 in 67 games with Tri-City and Regina.
