Sauve doesn't play a lot, but when he does play, he wins too.

The Calgary D, when it's working as intended, makes any goalie look good. When you get someone like Kipper in there, it's unstoppable.

    • I'm not sure what you're trying to argue, Sava.

Look at the points and look at the standings. I don't think there's a whole lot broken about the Flames right now. It's a team that's won 14 of the last 18 contests.

I'd like to see the offense kicked up a notch, though. But we're doing fine without a high-callibre offense.

      • Well, Calgary's success hinges on their goaltending because they don't score much. If Kipper is hot in the playoffs, they will have success. If he sucks, they will lose.

        It's as simple as that.

Overall, I'd rate Calgary's D as above average. Nothing special.

Kipper is responsible for their success.
To us, it is the BEAST.

You've no idea what you're talking about.

If Kipper is responsible for Calgary's success, why is it that Kipper's backup has even higher sv% and lower GAA? Why is it that Calgary still wins games without Kipper, if he's responsible for success?

He's a key member of the team and one of the stars, no doubt, but to paint it like the team rises and falls on Kipper's streaking, which is untrue.

            • The reason Calgary can win without scoring much is the tandem of solid goaltending with top-notch defense. Look at Calgary's record before Robyn Regehr came back from his injury and again after. The Calgary D are incredibly talented in ways that usually don't show up on scoresheets and stat tables -- they're rarely caught out of position, they win the battles along the boards, and they hit hard.

That's why we're going to win the cup.

                M. Kiprusoff 2.14 GAA .917 SV
                P. Sauve 2.32 GAA .919 SV

and Sauve has won only 3 games

                  There you go.

Doesn't look like a one-man goaltending team to me.

and Sauve has won only 3 games
                  He's only played 4... 75% winpct isn't too shabby.

Kipper plays a lot because he likes to play a lot. Sauve has proven himself in goal as well, and does well when he's put in. So clearly the argument that we only win because of Kipper is bunk.

He has saved games for Calgary as well, but so have other players.

uhmmm I posted the stats to show YOU WERE WRONG

Kipper is better in GAA and Sauve only leads him in SV by .002

oh and Sauve has played in 6 games... .500 win %... look at Yahoo's game log

                      WRONG AGAIN

                      misinformed Calgary fans

And considering Kipper has a 5:1 win ratio to Sauve, I'd say he is the reason Calgary is winning...

that's right... Kipper has won 83.3% of Calgary's games

                      • Just got back from a weekend trip and I'm very happy to see that my team kicked Road Kill's butt! Once the shutout stat correction for Kipper goes through, I'll have beat the current league leader by a score of 6-1-0!

He started in 4, the other 2 he came in when Kipper tanked. Those aren't counted when you're comparing win/loss.

You have a lot to learn about hockey.

The reason I was wrong about the GAA is the TSN site is apparently out of date: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/?hubname=nhl-flames

Look in the bottom right, it shoes Sauve as leading the team in sv% and GAA.

In any case, it's trivial and doesn't matter. Both Sauve and Kipper are good, and your assertion is the team is nothing without Kipper...yet 75% of the time when Kipper does not play, we still win.

that's right... Kipper has won 83.3% of Calgary's games
That doesn't back up your assertion. We've won 75% of the games that Kipper didn't play, so clearly we're not "nothing" without him. Kipper is the starter and thus...starts the majority of the games, but it doesn't mean we wouldn't win if he didn't.

Americans don't know much about hockey.

Yep. Your team came through big time since Thursday. I can't say I am unhappy with my own, but we just got beat. The last several weeks have been the harder ones for me, and you're the first to come out on top. Congrats.
