      It's the important bit

All of the Virginians on this board are from NoVA anyway AFAIK.
It's 12th in population and in GDP.

After shaving off the unimportant bits, it'd be around Arkansas in population.

But it wouldn't be a hole like Arkansas.

Tons of federal employees live in that bit, ergo it is important

Geeze, I was going to post here anyway, what a coincidence

          Anyway, first, requested Virginia smackdown
Last Virginian President: Woodrow Wilson (1913-1921, 84 years ago)
Last Arkansan President: Bill Clinton (1993-2001, 4 years ago)
I think the People have spoken pretty clearly here...

Elections in Camden, AR: 1/4 cent sales tax for economic development use, replacing a 1 cent sales tax that expires shortly. The money goes to things such as job incentives and a "business incubator" and other scattered projects. Supporters say the tax is a way to show the city is supportive of business, and will raise funds for worthwhile incentives. They even had a couple local TV ads. Opposition says we've already had the 1 cent tax for years and there's no development of any economy around here.

A lot of people support it and a lot of people oppose it, not because we're close-minded to the idea of paying a tax, but we've had some of the same elected officials for a decade, promising big breakthroughs that never come through, improvements that haven't materialized.

IMO, the vote could go either way. We'll wait and see...

Have you ever been to Northern Virginia? I'd be shocked if the Hispanic population was less than 20%. I'd guess at least 33% hispanic population in the outer suburbs (places like Manassas)

I haven't seen the polling numbers on Props 78 & 79. What makes you thing 79 will win? Both are drug reduction programs for seniors and the poor. 78 is an prop. which was written by drug companies, and gives them the option of offeriing low prices. 79 was written by consumer groups and required drug companies to offer low prices if they want to sell their drugs to Medical. All the ads I seen have been drug-company ads supporting 78 & bashing 79. ...And doing a rather good job of it, I must admit.

                  Was about to post that.

                  Precincts Reporting: 957 of 2426 (39.45%)
Registered Voters: 4,452,012 Total Voting: 756,782 Voter Turnout: 17.00 %
                  Candidates Party Vote Totals Percentage
                  T M Kaine Democratic 394,570 52.14%
                  J W Kilgore Republican 346,182 45.74%
                  H R Potts Jr Independent 15,403 2.04%
                  Write Ins 627 0.08%

Kaine's doing well with 40% of precincts, the other two races are neck and neck.

My mistake on 73, but the Field poll covered 79 recently. IIRC, it was leading by ~10%.

VA looks to be a winner for the Democrat:

With just over 60% of precincts reporting, Kaine is leading Kilgore 61%-37% in NOVA's biggest locality -- Fairfax Co.

And one look "inside the numbers" tells the story. At a swing, suburban precinct, "Sideburn," just a few paces from George Mason Univ. that went for ex-AG Mark Earley over Gov. Mark Warner 927-793 in '01, Kaine has won -- 836 - 770. Earley lost Fairfax Co. by 9%.

                      Awesome news.

Also, Roanoke, which Bush won 66-33, went to Kilgore by only 53-45.
Given the polls, I think Corzine will win even bigger in NJ than Kaine will in VA.

                        VA:

                        Precincts: 72.34 percent reporting

                        Kaine (D) 50.80%
                        Kilgore (R) 46.95%

It's safe to say now that Kaine has won, it's just a matter of whether or not he will maintain his >50 edge.

AP and Breitbart call VA for Kaine:

Ah, deceptiveness. That's just what I would expect from an Arkansan... Arkansasian... whatever you call people from Arkansas

                            Presidents from Virginia: 8
                            Presidents from Arkansas: 1

Important people from Arkansas: 1, Clinton

Country that Virginia is most like: England*

And it's been called for Corzine in NJ, with less than half of the precincts reporting. That's a blowout.
