In other election news, the "Democratic" governor of St. Paul, MN--who endorsed Bush in 2004--lost reelection to another Democrat 69-30. Ouch.

Overturning a law that made discrimination against gays illegal in housing etc. (before this an apartment could have a policy of not allowing any gay tenants and that would be perfectly legal). For years and years now, the Maine legislature has been passing laws like this and refurrendums have been shooting them down. Not this time I guess

                What do you think?

It was to rescind the equal protection that gays have under the law.

Glad to see that the New Jersey voters soundly rejected Forrester's smear campaign. 90% of the political ads I've seen this year have been negative attacks on Corzine by Forrester - and I'm in New York, fer crying out loud.

Bloomberg gets re-elected soundly, but Ferrer's faring better than I thought he would. I'm more interested to know at this point whether Mike can top Rudy in 1997 (he's trailing that mark by about 2%).

Nassau goes for four more years of the Suozzi train in resounding fashion. Rice is leading Dillon by a slim margin - hopefully she pulls it out. And Prop 1 is getting smashed just as I hoped it would.

The thing I'm most interested in right now? Prop 2, which my village is adamantly opposing since one of the projects in the bill is a fifth rail for the LIRR that would go right through town. It looks like it'll pass, though...

Kaine's victory in VA is significant. The polls had it dead even, and nobody expected more than a 1-2 point margin of victory. But it's 5-6 points, more than the margin Warner got elected by 4 years ago. And Kaine is easily more liberal than Warner.

VA is trending more and more blue...

It might not simply be blue vs. red. I watched part of the debate, and Kaine just seems smarter, more articulate, and better for the job, whether I agree with him more or not.

Of course being a good speaker doesn't make one a good governor, but he just seemed more on the ball to me.

Kaine also didn't piss off a lot of independents with his ads.

You're just saying that because Kilgore has a pronounced southern accent, aren't you?

I thought that his focus on the Death Penalty was pretty stupid. It's an odd issue to single out, considering its the issue most likely to split the religious vote.

Not really. The problem was that in his advertisements Kilgore seems like (and probably is) a mean, horrible person.
