Over thousand cars burned last night in France, some shots on cops, fortunately no one died.

Seems to me that from some nights ago, the rioters are out there because they just want to tear places up.

Hey, if you want to protest, if you want to get heard in mroe physical way, do on day time. Why you have to do it always at night? Oh that's right, because most of the PUNKS and THUGS who are still breaking property are at sleep during the day because they don't work. Some of them wants to, most of them wouldn't even if they got the chance.

The ones who started being pissed off, hey, it happens. But the ones who are now playing are youth, ****ing punks who need to get shot in the head with REAL bullets from next night on. It has passed the acceptable line a long time ago.

To anyone with an ounce of sense, it's very clear that you're hitting the nail on the head. Unfortunately, as you can see from this thread, all a lot of people are really interested in is the fact that immigrants (even second generation ones) are involved, in order to prop up their existing beliefs.

He blames the economic predicament and the attitude of the rioters almost entirely on white racism in that post. Doesn't the culture of the rioters and the gulf between the cultures of those who live outside the cites and those within have something to do with the problem? Is it possible that immigrants from societies that look almost entirely like failures (to western eyes at least) bring with them some of their own cultural values which clash with the dominant culture and make those who hold them demonstrably poorer employees? Is a false assumption about another's culture racism? How about a correct assumption?

If that were my neighbourhood or an american one I'm sure we'd have formed a local self-defence group if the police are too incompetant.

Of course the rioting cannot be tolerated, and the police must stop it.

People don't act like that without reasons. Reasons are not the same thing as justifications; the destruction of property is not justified, but if you want to prevent it from reoccuing some time in the future, you better be willing to understand and address the causes.

People must be valued members of society who feel that they are contributing, who feel that their contributions are recognized.

You cannot keep them marginalized, unemployed, and without opportunity.

Meanwhile a man who fell into a coma after being beaten last week is thought to be the first fatality of the unrest.

Jean-Jacques Le Chenadec, 61, was reportedly struck by a hooded man in the street after he and a neighbour went to inspect damage to bins near their apartment block in the town of Stains, in the Seine-Saint-Denis region outside Paris.

His widow has been received by Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy.

I was talking about this with some people, and one pointed out that what makes this different from a typical US riot is that people don't have guns, thus limiting damage to property.
