  • One rap group, the Ministère amer (Bitter Ministry), won special official praise. Its best-known lyric: “Another woman takes her beating./ This time she’s called Brigitte./ She’s the wife of a cop./ The novices of vice piss on the police./ It’s not just a firework, scratch the clitoris./ Brigitte the cop’s wife likes ******s./ She’s hot, hot in her pants.”
french rap sucks arse, that doesn't even rhyme.

fair play to nicholas sarkozy for trying to take a tough line with the rioters, but it doesn't look like it's getting any better. these riots will only strengthen politicans like le pen.

    • Well I guess I'll have to sample some french rap. Could be interesting.

For some reason I just find the idea of non-American rap amusing.

      • it's all about kenyan rap. it's all in swahili so you can't understand a word, but you just know they're rapping about their b1tches and pimped up donkey carts.

        • Rap's very popular in many parts of Africa. I'm somewhat skeptical about French rap though.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

          • Liberal media here are more in uproar over Sarkozy allegedly referring to the rioters as 'scum' - than they are over incidents such as the one with the disabled woman being deliberately doused in gasoline and set on fire in the bus she was on, and which she was unable to escape. She barely survived, but with horrendous burns on her face and body.

But don't you dare express any kind of negative thoughts about those poor, marginalized youths. Oh no.

As per usual, I'm severely pissed off by this traditionally pathetic excuse for news coverage on people who vandalize, maim and destroy for so-called 'political' reasons. Certain media outlets here completely neglect to mention that a significant portion of the rioters are immigrants, even when their status as unadjusted immigrants is an important part of explaining why they're behaving this way in the first place.

What explains the actions of the portion that isn't made up of immigrants? Have a read of Drake's article.

              • So I take it you don't consider it an important and relevant part of the picture to report that the rioters are predominantly from an immigrant background? Get a clue will you.

                  • Excellent article that spells out the situation and why the rioting is so dangerous.

Regarding content - yes, but otherwise no. I wouldn't put it on an ignore list - quite contrary - I would like to know what else such a "news" channel could invent of distorted facts.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

                          • The right claims the problems are caused by failed integration, excessive tolerance of law-breaking and victimization of wrong-doers. The left says it's because of neglect, unemployment and stigmatisation. As usual, it's probably a bit of both.
But what is not going to fix things is provocations of the kind Sarkozy has been employing. Act tough, speak soft.

Still, good to see you managed completely to ignore the point of my post in favour of an utterly mystifying and inaccurate comment- rather like your mystifying and inaccurate thread title.

Of course if we were to follow your logic and terminological inexactitude, we could describe more than quite a few civil disturbances in the United States as being 'immigrant riots'- and of course rename 'race riots' as being 'internal immigrant riots', if they were taking place in northern cities of the United States, such as Chicago and Detroit, with populations of African Americans who had migrated from the Deep South in search of employment.

The last huge multiple night riot like this in the US, I thnk was the Rodney King riots in LA, back in '92.

                              • Well, strictly spreaking the youth who are causing problems right now aren't immigrants either. You can bet your arse on it that all of the people were born in France.
