He doesn't need to be too glass half full . Miers seems to be more liberal than O'Conner according to the TNR article.

Maybe Bush isn't as dumb as he looks.
Who would have guessed that he could nominate TWO candidate for the high court that the Dem couldn't feast on.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

I don't care about the liberal/conservative thing, I'm just more bothered by the fact that it looks like a cronyist installation.

          He-he.

Bush must've realised the immense entertainment potential of leaving the people who live and breathe for criticizing the crap out of him on every imaginable issue so totally and utterly confused.

          Priceless.

Er... as well as the people who live and breathe for praising him for everything he does on every imaginable issue?

The last month was political murder on Bush, even if his numbers have gone up a little. Spending too much political capital on the judicial nominees is not the wisest things to do, specially when he probably needs it more on getting the estate tax repealled and other matters.

I agree. There is ample and devastatingly recent evidence of cronyism and this allows the oppositional party to legitamitely and further claim so.

                          Interesting.

We shall see what happens from here on out. Surprised one of the other conservatives didn't get picked.

Wow, he actually named his own personal lawyer to the Supreme Court. He really has taken cronyism to a new level. From Michael Brown to this to the massive pork barrel spending, Bush has shown what is truly important to him- using his position to benefit his closest friends.

We can only hope that Bush's handlers had a handle on this one. This is the payoff for 35+ years of the conservative movement?

This was to be the moment that we get the juice to FINALLY end the murder of innocent babies in the womb.

Maybe, just maybe, this is the stealth candidate that will make up for the Souter blunder.

                              Could be.

I think everything else in Bush's presidency will pale into the fog besides these SCOTUS picks.

Nothing less than a full reversal of Roe v. Wade and mandatory felony prison terms for offending doctors will suffice.

The GOP has been handing the Dems their hat for some years now. I hope at the end of all this splendid effort we haven't fumbled the ball.

The conversation that I hope happened.

Bush: "Okay Harriet, you are satisfied with Mr. Roberts?

                              Miers: "100%"

Bush: "Mr. Roberts, are you satisfied with Ms. Miers?"

                              Roberts: "100%, Mr. President."

Bush: "Then we have a deal. Baby killing ends."

Rberts and Miers in unision: "Amen!"

Thats my hope and prayer for the future of America.

This worries me that we have Souter 2.0 in the making. I was at least convinced that Roberts would be a reasonably dependable conservative vote. The more I learn of this nominee the more I worry.
