Your satire could use a little work but it's not bad.

You've done a perfect job of capturing what the insane people on Freerepublic would post.

The wingnuts are howling bloody murder over the pick. They're not getting the arch-conservative they want, and the Dems get to look generous while the media is already questioning her credentials and pointing out the cronyism. There's talk of the GOP Senators trying to filibuster her. And the radio hosts have gone ballistic...

Anything that alienates the GOP base leading into 2006 is fine by me. Thanks, President Bush!

The National Review? Who mentioned them?

The New Republic is a fairly left leaning publication, Oerdin. And those were actually quotes from the report she submitted as chair of the committee.

Hey, Dick Cheney told Rush to trust him on this pick. Its in the bag. Invest in disposable diapers. We are going to have a baby boom.

Good thing too, I was worried about my Social Security.

I thought New Republic swung to the right.

Ahh, when you wrote TNR I thought you meant the National Reivew instead of The New Republic.

Okay, what the hell. Why is Bush throwing bones to the liberals? Is it Katrina fallout?

Aroo? The headline on the cover of the latest magazine says "The Military: Yes; Militarism: No". I doubt a right wing publication would ever print something like that.

And Oerdin, click on links before you comment on them, k?

I think it has more to do with his poll numbers are in the toilet and the people don't want to see a bruising fight. Add in that 7 GOP Senators are part of the Centrist 14 who have vowed to combat extremism and you see why Bush was in a nomination pickle. If he gave the far right what they wanted and sent up a right wing demigogue then public opinion would have been polarized, the Dems would have filibustered, Frist would have attempted to rewrite the rules to force the nominee through, and the Centrist 14 would have announced that this really was to far outside the mainstream for them to support. The result would have been a big fight which the Republicans would have lost because the Dems plus the 7 Republicans in the centrist 14 would have been able to block anything.

Bush choose not to have a show down and instead bounced several ideas off of the Democratic leadership in the Senate until they found someone who was nonoffensive enough to get through the process without a fight. This will piss of the right wingers who supported Bush in two elections but Bush isn't running again so he doesn't need them. The rest of the Republicans aren't so lucky.

TNR is basically a DLC-oriented publication, moderately libertarian and hawkish.
