  • You actually thought Virginia Tech was going to lose?
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

    • Did you see the game? Maryland had ample opportunity to win it. The score is misleading. Virginia Tech looked like it was in Maryland's class and in no way in Texas's or USC's class.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. • Yes, I saw the game. Virginia Tech was frustrated before half time, but then bust out the woopin' stick after half time. Maryland had no chance after they came out for the 2nd half.

        • I think we must have seen different games. If Maryland converted a couple of its turnovers on VaTech's side of the field into TDs (as they seemed capable of doing), then they would have had an even chance to win the game.

          • From the ESPN article:

Led by Vick, the Hokies made up for it the second half, outgaining Maryland 275 yards to 96.

If you don't think that's a dominating 2nd half then you are on something.

Sure Vick threw 3 INTs in the 3rd Q, but look at the yardage totals. The Terps couldn't convert the turnovers because VTech's defense turned it up.

It is my opinion that Maryland was capable of scoring the points against the VaTech defense, but didn't because of simple errors and missed opportunities. I don't really think VaTech's defense "turned it up" much. Rather, Maryland stopped itself. Kickers missed field goals, etc.

              • Because Virginia Tech isn't know for its defense and special teams .

Simply because Maryland had a crappy FG kicker doesn't mean that VTech got 'lucky'.

I mean Maryland only scored 9 points... but the VTech D couldn't have been responsible for that, right?

                • I didn't say that VaTech got lucky. Don't put words in my mouth. I'm merely saying that if you believed VaTech was in a different class than Maryland going into the game, then it would be tough to find evidence supporting the notion during that game.

                  • In the 2nd half, you surely could.

                      • ::shrug:: I just don't understand how you couldn't. In the 2nd half VTech outscored Maryland 21-6 and outgained The Terps 275 to 96. Over a full game that's a score of 42-12 and outgaing of 550 yards to 192 yards.

                        • 3 interceptions should have led to a TD or two, or at least two or three field goals. The mo is then in Maryland's favor and all of the sudden, VaTech is on the ropes, fighting for its life. Just because Maryland didn't execute on that, doesn't make it a dominating VaTech performance in any way, shape or form.

                            • On another topic, Brady Quinn could have easily beaten Joe Theismann's single-game yards passing record, if Weis would have let him. ND was scoring touchdowns at will, which I have never seen ND do, even against its lowliest opponents.

I am quite impressed with what Weis has done with Quinn and expect Quinn to have a good shot at winning the Heisman next year and being the #1 pick in the NFL draft thereafter. He would probably be a top 3 pick this year, if he chose to forego his Senior season.

                              Weis just plain oozes competence.

I believe Quinn is a junior. There has been a LOT of speculation that Quinn may decide to leave after this season due to his improvement (making him a 1st round pick... perhaps the 2nd QB taken after Leinhart).
