Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

Gee with the oil sands gone nothing would be left but a bunch of cow patties.

Maybe those could be Alberta's new natural resource.

Yes you both deserve each other. Your provinces should both seperate and together form your own country.

The entertainment value would be tremendous.

Historically, Alberta has always had the borders that it has. The same cannot be said for Northern Quebec. I suppose, one could ask the folks in Ft. McMurray if they would vote yea or nay, but I would be willing to say that they would vote with the rest of Alberta, unlike northern Quebec.

I find it very amusing that folks from Quebec are arguing that Alberta would need to be partioned should they wish to leave.

Thats a rather large leap of faith since separation is currently a fringe issue pretty much anywhere in Alberta. In Fort MacMurray with a large workforce that regularly travels to and from their homes in other provinces, one can deduce that separation would be even less popular. Even if there were economic benefits for them personally, do you think those workers would want to do something that would have a HUGE detrimental economic impact on their moms and dads "back home"

How exactly is Canada sliding towards third-world-nation status?

Apparently if your current government has some corruption charges to answer for, you're a rapidly declining third world economic catastrophe with a one-dimensional economy and a penchant for military dictatorships.

That doesn't see to stop the folks from Quebec from contemplating separation, or was that sovereignty assocation, or whatever they are calling it nowadays?

Secondly, I'm not really in agreement with Alberta to remain a political entity in itself. I'm looking at it forming a union with the United States, which is a far more thought provoking and interesting option.

I think that so long as they have good jobs and can continue to keep the good jobs that aren't available in Newfoundland, then I don't think they will worry too much about the feds treat the folks back home. Last I checked, the Newfies were pulling down Canadian flags themselves.

No, on account of one being stuffed by Frenchmen and the other by Finns.

Seriously, no, I rather like social programmes, but so what? It doesn't address the question whether a nation can be forged by social programmes.
