Separation of Alberta is highly unlikely if the feds don't try to pull another National Energy Program. People here enjoy an affluent lifestyle and the government has what looks like lots of money so its difficult for the rank and file to get to upset about the fact that they could be even more affluent without Canada.
Secondly a LOT of "Albertans" moved here from elsewhere in Canada during their own lifetime and still feel strong links to their own home region. Alberta separation would hurt those regions economically.
Third, would regions of Alberta have the option to secede from Alberta?? I ask because anecdotally, it appears that the Fort MacMurray region ( with its billions of barrells of oil) is populated by people, a majority of whom were born in Newfoundland.
