Every ten years or so, a bunch of Maoist fanatics get organized in Montreal, and found a new "more revolutionary than thou" political party. In the late 70's it was En Lute! (In Struggle!), and there have been a couple since. In two years they'll be split into half a dozen different factions.

Are you laying odds on the fact that a published act of sedition will not likely be very successful in the long run?

      You are very bold, Sah!

If you think CSIS and the RCMP aren't all over these guys like hair on an ape by now, well then, may I interest you in a bridge?

Section 59 of the Criminal Code of Canada. Sedition. Have a good read. Also review the sections regarding treason and high treason (section 46).

The Charter does not allow the freedom to overrun the state and extinguish the Charter, along with everything else.

It's usually pointless to argue with an armchair lawyer, so I'll just ask you this. If your interpretation is correct and this group is guilty of criminal activity AND if you're also right that the agencies of state security on top of the groups' activities, why haven't they done anything about it? Shouldn't charges be laid, people arrested, that sort of thing? Why is their website still up?

Frankly, I'd think it appauling that a Western democracy would close down a group like this for 'sedition'. A blatent violation of free speech rights (Oh, and laws that the Germans and French, etc, have against Nazi parties already do appaul me, fyi).

What did they do to those poor boys and girls at Ruby Ridge and Waco?

For the reason that they don't matter, yet, and it would do no public good to squash them?

Maybe for the same reason they infiltrated the white supremesist movement while leaving them go on for years?

I see no problem with shutting them down.

**** sedition. They're guilty of incitement to violence...

but the original question was, is this legal in Canada?

The answer is that advocating the violent overthrow of the GoC is, indeed, against the law.

techumseh said it best. Loony fringe groups spring up every so often, then disappear without a trace. The peruvian maoist gerilla, Sendero Luminoso, actually have a handful of followers in Sweden. No cares about them and they are a joke as hardcore revolutionaries...

See these same signs all over the downtown eastside of Vancouver. Mostly they get ripped down within a day or so.

There is a difference between saying, "we plan to kill ..." and "and go kill ..." The latter is incitement, the former is not.

Anyway, Canada has dozens of revolutionary groups, whom the Canadian government largely ignores. The same is true in the U.S. As NYE notes, we are irrelevent, so the government pays no attention to us. Anarchists on the other hand, committ acts of vandalism, and so the government of both countries does pay quite a bit of attention to them.

Aggie, just because I don't want to be the next Stalin, like you seem to want to do, that doesn't make me a Menshevik. Violence, i.e., self-defense, may be necessary, but that doesn't mean I look forward to it.

Nor do I believe in killing anyone who isn't actively trying to kill you or someone else. Letting the capitalists live is morally right, and practically necessary, since they will have much of the technical knowledge needed to run society.

I find no humor in death, nor in threatening to kill. It is one of your most inhuman qualities.
