One of the politicians accused of sexism was contrite yesterday. Alberta Conservative MLA Tony Abbott apologized for saying Ms. Stronach is a "little rich girl who is basically whoring herself out to the Liberals."

"I take it back. I retract it. It was wrong," said the evangelical Christian minister who represents a rural riding southwest of Edmonton. He said he also personally apologized to Ms. Stronach yesterday.

"The fact that I'm a Christian pastor -- I shouldn't have said it in the first place."

Why the hell are you celebrating? Martin's Liberals are Centre-Right. Belinda didn't defect to them because she realized the wonders of socialism -- she defected because she couldn't steer the Conservatives towards Centre-Right.

BTW, Brits, my advice is: Don't even think about electing Brown. Seriously. Good finance ministers don't make good prime ministers.

The Tories just wasted a perfectly good two weeks getting rid of their ability to affect the government and losing their most visible Ontarian to boot.

I have very mixed feelings. One one hand I want a crack at sending the Liberals to the opposition benches, but on the other I would prefer the Tories have more time to organise in Ontario and, dare I think it, Quebec.

In the long run the last two weeks will have been good and bad for the Tories. They forced the government to come back to Parliament (bring forth the budget and resume opposition days) and Martin will easily be stripped of any claims he may try to make about being a newer, more democratic Liberal. He's been exposed for the venal creature that he is.
