  • The legislature drew a line in the sand and called it 60%. Now they have the awkward situation of less than 43% of voters supporting FPTP, but less than 60% supporting change. Sounds very BC.

Well they are given the last couple of weeks' performance. You'd have to be a complete moron to be outwitted by Paul Martin.

For the 1001th time: that's politics.

Harper should quit, the Tories should stop this ridiculous social conservatism thing, and give Canadians a choice that people in Ontario could actually vote for in numbers.

Despite all the Gomery stuff the Liberals are outpolling the Tories by 10% in Ontario. Now don't tell me that this is no-one's fault. The fact that Ontarians would rather have the current Liberals than Harper's mob tells you that it's time Mohammed went to the mountain. Reform politics just does not work on the national level. ****, I'm a foreigner and I realized that within a couple of months of living here.

I may troll you over Tory failures, but they have to do something and stop blaming Canadians.

        • I'm sorry, but buying votes with cabinet positions, or money for flags, is certainly not politics that many Canadians have any respect for.

But please, feel free to feel good everytime there is a poll showing Martin doing well. But, will you show up when the inevitable polls come out saying he is dead?

It works. By Xmas people will have forgotten. That's politics. I bet Stronach gets re-elected too.

And the last election was supposed to be the end for the Liberals according to Tories I know. Of course it wasn't – no one in Ontario is going to vote for the anti-gay **** among other things.

If by some miracle the Tories managed to form a minority government, it would have an even worse time than the current one has had.

              • Ben - although I agree that you seem like a nice guy, I have to question your wisdom asserting Belinda will lose her seat in the next election. Although I don't think it will be a coronation by any means, I would be surprised if she won by less then 1,500 votes for a number of reasons. But I really would love to be wrong on this one.
She barely won her seat last election, 'star candidate' or not. I cannot say that she will earn the majority support in Newmarket Aurora when she had to fight so hard last time just to win.

If I'm ignorant, that doesn't speak well for you guys. Believe it or not I talk to a lot of Ontarians, and they all say that they don't like the Tories social policies. If the Tory party had been in the old PC mode in the last election they probably would have won.

Like it or not you have to do well in Ontario to become the government of Canada. Standing around with your hands in your pockets waiting for the rest of Canada to suddenly become more like Alberta is going to get you nowhere.

                    • Aggie, you don't have to be in Ontario to hear a lot about people not liking the Tories. I can go to a campus bar in Edmonton and hear the same thing in the same concentration.

Incidently, Harper was winning that election until the Liberals retreated from campaigning on their own platform and went for fear of the Tories.

It wouldn't matter if the Tories dumped Harper and brought in the second coming of Christ, they are going to have to battle through the Liberal fear machine before they can win.

Yeah and how many parties already have similar social policies?

If they want social liberalism, they got plenty of choices on the market. Why don't they vote NDP or Liberal?

Yes, it was a narrow victory, but she won a seat in an area that traditionally elected Liberal MPs. Now that she is a Liberal, it will be easier for her to win the next vote.

Yup. As BC as the 97.5% of seats won by the Liberals last time, that the electoral reform was supposed to avoid. I'm glad the referendum failed, and I hope they don't push BC-STV through, but I also hope they try again soon with a better system.

As for federal politics, I have to point out that the Tories are already airing dishonest ads attacking the Liberals ("Paul Martin will do anything to hold on to power"). If I voted for parties, that would lose them my vote right there. They have done nothing lately but try to bring down the government, and complain about the Liberals ignoring their stupid attempt at fooling everybody into thinking that vote a while ago was a confidence vote. I find their tactics baffling and shrill.

                            • Prey tell what they are supposed to do when they have decided it is time to go to the polls, but the government does everything but allow a vote that could lead to an election.

Martin hasn't been doing extreme things to hold onto power?
