  • eye for an eye

all this talk about Terri's death being an execution got me thinking about another issue. There's plenty of folks out there who think that we should just roll over and take it when we get kicked in the head. Sometimes we should take it, but there's other times we need to stand for ourselves.

So what do yall think about giving an eye for an eye? Would yall rather take it or fight back? Would you stand up for someone weaker than you or let them get pummelled into a locker like a folded accordian?

There is no such idea of an eye for an eye. Though these people did harm someone, they are still humans. Sure they must face a punishment but where do you draw the line? Life is not what you are but what you make of it. How you spend your time while here is what you will be judged on

Eye for an eye is inconsistent and your question is loaded and emotive... "roll over and take it". At the moment of an attack, ones self-preservation means self-defence is fine, but when that is no longer the case, justice takes over. That is inherently objective and should be an end in itself, not a means to the end of revenge which is somewhat antithetical to anything we could call "civilised".

I have very little faith in the legal/justice system.

Having been a victim of so called 'violent' crime on one occassion, I now always fight back. It's sad that we live in an 'every man for himself' society these days....but you have to move with the times. I refuse to become a victim, I can't rely on the 'state' to protect me or bring the right people to justice, so will take whatever steps I can to protect myself and those I love.

Equal force etc - i wouldnt shoot burgulars (mainly due to not having a gun ) but I would try to stop them in non lethal ways.

And Gandhi was a *****, like we've covered it a long time ago. Not a bad person, but definitely not a hero.

Anyway, eye for an eye is not a working concept. Is it justice? Depends what your view of justice is. My view is, that it's not justice. Why would we need any more harm that is already done? But in some cases eye for an eye is justice. Say, you steal 1000 dollars from the society. Eye for an eye is that you pay it back. That is justice.

You shoot someone to death for reason unknown. When danger is over and that shooter has been captured, to shoot him is eye for an eye, but unnecessary. I wouldn't think that as justice.

In case of heated situation, where you are facing a poke to your eye, I don't suggest getting it done and then poking back. I strongly recommend being the poker first, then poking some more, and then some, never letting the aggressor poke you at all. Poke all his eyes. No reason to get hurt because some sissie thinks you have other opportunities. You should have mercy in your heart, to evaluate the situation, that you don't hurt other people too much. For example if aggressor is drunk and just being a *****, but coming to hit you, you should teach them a lesson but not leave them with harmful injuries. If someone grabs a knife and you get the upper hand, you should stick that knife into them, but not killing them if possible. If someone is otu there to kill you, you should kill them first. Simple and effective.

I was also trying to find out if you guys believe in eye for eye as forms of punishment as well. I.E you have a crimminal that rapes and kills a kid. Do you think it is right for the criminal to sufer the same punishment or just give him lethal injection. For me Lethal injection is the easy way out on this scumbag. Give him the same form of torture that he give that kid

so you suggest someone would rape and kill him? That's not the same, that's not eye for an eye. Eye for an eye would be that someone rapes and kills HIS kid. Is that justice? What would it help? What difference would it make? I say lock'em up, don't let them out. But that's it. DP supporters hate life. I'm pro-life. And pro-choice.
