Point taken but in a US ruled Iraq with an "involved" UN what standing does the US government have. Will you believe the white house pronouncements and investigations of independant observers when there would have been ample opportunity for someone to plant evidence beforehand in a situation that has been created by the US admin?

      • It's just as good an argument as this one:

Like it or not a nation can and should not interfere in matters of others national sovereignty and internal matters else the allegations of hegemony and world supremacy are entirely true.

The US has had ample opportunity do so already... and it doesn't appear that they have. Now would be the time to do it, because in the middle of the war, it would be much easier to get away with something then later when it will be easier for somebody else to follow up on it.

So far... the military has found some suspected sites... In each case, it's been the Cheer Leading Media that has tried to make a big deal out of it... yet the government has always used terms like... first reports only... haven't had time to prove it... tests are being done... and have not been able to confirm any of them.

So IMHO, I think they will continue to play it straight. Maybe because if they get caught, it will be even worse.

Also IMHO, I think the government will be satisfied if Saddam is removed, and a democracy gets put in his place. They will be able to point at the "for the good of the people in Iraq" and make strong political gains with that alone. They can always moan that no proof was found, but that doesn't mean Iraq never had them, just that they couldn't find them. That would be a much safer approach than getting caught making something up.

That's one thumbs up for free speech.

Over here we don't just get reportos of dancing in the streets but also horrendous shots of family's crying for their loved ones lost.

1/3 of them reporters, 1/3 coalition soldiers, and the other 1/3 mostly disgruntled iraquis.

I'll still celebrate that coalition forces took most of Baghdad with few casulties on either side.

Before you celebrate too much, think of the 1000+ casualities.

Nobody is celebrating the deaths... Yet on the other hand, so far, the casualities are FAR LIGHTER than those unrealistic projections made by the anti war crowd before the war started. And when you consider all the deaths that were going on under the sanctions, it's not that bad of a trade off. No, I'm not saying that any death is good... it's just that in comparison, less people are dying... and that is good.
