They survived the wipe out after Bennett, when the Progressives flourished in the West.
They will survive the wipe out of Mulroney, and the rise of Reform/CA. It is the CA who are desperate for the merger. They know that it is only a matter of time before enough people get over Mulroney, and then Tories get elected in Ontario. Actually, the longer they hold out, the greater the chance of an eventual Liberal wipe out, and a Tory government without solid roots in the West.
Interesting enough, both wipe outs led to prolonged Liberal Majority governments.
The real question is when will people learn that splitting is not the answer to being pee'd off.
