Holden Caufield is from Catcher in the Rye, dude.

Obi Wan, don't mind Boris too much. Just let him believe what he believes, there was undoubtedly a purpose for Boris to reject religion as a whole in this life. Ol Boris here is a great guy. I find it interesting that people like Boris and Che (atheist gay guy and atheist Marxist) amongst the most godly individuals in this forum. While they may not be cognizant of it in this lifetime, they manifest God's divine love and compassion greater than a very vast majority. They dedicate their lives to improvement of other's to a degree that is nearly unmatched here. I assure them that they will be getting an excellent review when their time here is up. So even if Boris perhaps has a couple silly beliefs, don't hold it against him, we all have believed silly things from time to time. Boris is already well versed in the teachings of Jesus, whether he knows it or not.

I don't know if they appreciate what you just said about them monkspider, but kudos to you.

Not if Boris rejects Christ, in the process of rejecting religion.

Boris doesn't reject Christ, he may reject the religion we know as Christianity, but he doesn't reject Christ (even if he may think he does at the present). There are many important lessons that Boris can learn as an "atheist" that he would not have learned otherwise and he has been doing famously.

You do not have to agree my friend, merely take from my comments what you will. There are many so-called conservatives here that I deeply worry about, but not you. You have a very beautiful, compassionate soul, and I urge you to continue along your current spiritual path, and never give up. You are well on your way, in fact, you already accept the doctrine of pacifism! What a world it would be if there were more like you.

Boris is pretty well saying everything i would, so ill just leave it up till him...

but i differ on that from Roman documents found of Pilot and his sentence of Jesus, that he was a real man, not a figment.

Studyin for tests preclude me from my ritual loafing at 'Poly for hours on end...

Boris is not as far along as you are as he is arguing that Christ never existed, while you seem to argue that he did exist.

So he might not make the points you would want him to.

                  Take care, K-man.

*bump* For my question if Boris believes in the existance of Socrates
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

What a load of misinformation. Paul was a persecuter of the Christians and after his conversion, he studied with the disciples for 3 years. He was a great mover of the faith to the gentiles, but he didn't "make up" the resurrection.
I am GUESSING that he did, because by far and large, people don't ressurect, therefore, my guess that this part is wrong.

Jesus existed, thats more than an educated guess. There are numerous extra biblical texts though none as well authenticated as the gospels. There is the account the historian Josephus who wrote about of the Jewish uprising of 70AD with the well known though contorversial mention of Jesus but he also mentions the trial of his brother James and thats a lot harder to dispute. The first century historian Tacticus also mentions the trial of Christus. Pliney a Roman who died at Vesuvius in 79 AD also wrote concerning the Christians who "honor Christ as if to a God"
As I said, I don't know for sure, but most chances are that he did.

The fact is that there are numerous sources that define beyond a reasonable doubt that the belief in the diety of Christ was not an evolution over hundreds of years. By 55 AD, Pauls letters already affirmed the resurrection as an article of faith. The argument that mistranslations, and changes to the bible have distorted the message just doesn't square with the evidence.
Noone said that it happened over hundreds of years. But won't you think that Paul could falsify the truth? at the time, not writing the truth in text messages was standard practice, it is only now that we expect the press, and the media to tell us the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

We can be much more certain that the Bible today is what the authors wrote than we can be about the writings of Plato and Socrates which are 500 years older.
                          How so?
the writings of the greek philosophers are theoretical works, considering their view of the nature of the universe. I don't think they were changed, just as the written laws of the religions. But I rarely expect the historians of the time to give me a true account of the proceedings. The general lines may be the same, but on the whole it is filled with inaccuracies.

If the Bible had been subject to as much doctoring as people claim, there would have been a lot more cleaning up of any difficult passages than we find. You can believe what you want about Jesus, but you can't say the Bible isn't an accurate testament of what the early Christians believed.
what do you mean by "difficult passages".

Obiwan: do you really think that Jesus was directly quoted?

I wonder if this was around the time of the First Holy Dropped Call. Still, you might be on to something here. Garbled text messaging would explain much of the Bible to me.

I think Jesus' message is quite clear. Its what people have chosen to do in his name that is the problem.
