The working class, silly. The reason the US didn't have a revolution was because of the New Deal. We were closer to Communist revolution at any time in our history, and that includes during the Great Labor Uprising, when the workers were actually revolting! Lonestar, your formulation is correct, although even Marx never mean that proletarian revolution was automatically going to happen. He assumed people wouldn't put up with capitalism rather than let it devolve into barbarism (as happened from 1914 to 1945). Nor did he predict that the capitalist state would force the capitalists to ameliorate the worst excesses of the system for their own damn good.

Passing through is a very suspicious statistic, because that lets you count everyone who ever gives money to the Communist party, over whatever period of time you like.

Taking a yearly snapshot would be more accurate.
