Wow with all this communist, fascist, capitalist name calling going around it feels like the 30s.

Just curious, was Russia ever really communist, ever? What exactly was it, I always thought it was closer to fascist but I'll be damned if I could define fascism.

Early on Gsmoove, during Lenin's day. It is also a little known fact that for a while, the Soviet Union was the most democratic country in the history of the world.

Dictatorship the leaders were rich and the rest of the people poor or dead. I think the Fascist's had it a bit better because if you were a 100% German .life was not to bad -Jobs-trains run on time -roads built etc. In Russia most had zip except long lines at any stores no autos etc.
Now don't say I am a fascist because I hate Fascists as well as Stalinists. The both groups deserve to be plowed under.

this is a good one a quote for in someone's signature.

but to translate it for you:
io ho vissuto in Spagnola per diversi anni. Sono nato a Messina . E mai stato in Sicilia? Le e piaciuto?
i lived in spain for a few years. i was born in messina. have you never been to sicily? did you like it?

Whoever said Berlusconi is corrupt... should get a clue. Berlusconi is a capitalist and will help Italy if he gets his plans accomplished.
                    i said that...

you're right, berlusconi is a capitalist. but he's also extremely corrupt. he's a corrupt capitalist.

                    why corrupt?
                    - he fires people from the national TV because they criticise him.
                    - he sends hitmen and blackmailers after judges and lawyers who are investigating against him.
                    - he changes the law so he can't be convicted of his crimes. e.g. he committed fraud x years ago. after the law he would be found guilty. but he changed the prescription to less than x years.

now if you still believe he's not corrupt, you're the biggest proof that propaganda works perfectly on not so smart people (to say it in a friendly way)

IIRC, it was something like -3 or -4 economic and -6 or -7 authoritarian.

'Course the poll is pretty silly in general since it categorizes social democrats as left libertarians.

it depends who's standard of communism you take.

what you americans learn, communism is that what is generally called "stalinism", the evil form of communism. but you were brainwashed during the cold war to believe that all communism is stalinism.

the "real" communism however is marxism. it glorifies the labour, aims on total equality and fairness. but marxism never worked. lenin came fairly near to it, but still needed a small bit of dictatorship to keep the dead poor russia happy (as we know from civ3, no luxuries means no happiness ).

present day communism (like the approx. 10% in france, 4% in germany and some percent in italy) is a very extreme socialism. mostly marxistic.

to all who are interested in these things: i'd recommend both "bibles": adam smith's "the wealth of the nations" and karl marx's "the communistic manifesto". both brilliant books, allthough both are more idealistic that realistic. both pure capitalism and pure communism never can work. there's always a need for market just as there's always a need for state.

In the first years of the Revolution, The soviets (workers' and peasants' councils) were running the state and the economy and everyone was allowed to participate in them. All political parties were allowed to participate in soviet elections and debates and put forward their ideas. It is also a little known fact that the first Soviet government was in fact a coalition between the Bolshevik party and the Left Social Revolutionaries. The only parties not allowed were those which had taken arms against Soviet power.

Within the Communist Party there was the widest of democracies. During the discussion of the Brest-Litovsk peace agreement with Germany there were at least three different fractions within the CP with different opinions. One of them, the Left Communists, headed by Bukharin, even published for a while a daily paper, "The Communist", opposing Lenin's position on the issue!

There is a FAQ on the website that explains that the poll was made from a european standpoint where the definition of libertarian may be slightly different.

But the libertarian title refers to your stance on authority and its role in social life while the left, right refers to economics. I see no problem with this.
