One has to wonder where the insult lies.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...
What's behind the US style of the current election?

Aren't German troops in Afghanistan?
AFAIK a few of our special forces are. It's pretty silent here about this, and nothing in the news, because it's pretty unpopular. IIRC is was told to be backed by the Atlantic alliance.
Whatever is true, they are there without my permission.
Hitler did a lot of things: he made campaing speeches, kissed babys, had photo ops, and so forth. So every politician as done something Hitler did also.
Germany is a democracy- she shoud have the right to compare anytone to anyone, directly, or as she did, indirectly. We compare endless people to Hitler daily- why Bush should not be included, if Clinton was compared to hitler by many in the US also, is beyond me, but of course, i don't sleep with a picture of Bush under my pillow.

ISAF has lots of Germans, and it is officially confirmend that ca. 100 special forces from the KSK operate together with the allied forces (not as part of ISAF)

After WW2 the German foreign policies were curtailed to almost non existant. But whatever remained (and it has gotten hugely stronger since) was positively in favor of whatever the US said.
What has constituted this recent (?) change of attitudes?

You mean why this "US style of the election" now - hm, good question. Perhaps because both top candidates aren´t really that different in their programs, so they lay more attention into other details - public image etc...
Why are Germans so opposed to go to war with Iraq?
Well, if someone would kick Saddam out, I would not be very angry about it... However, there are still unanswered questions, after the victory, what next? I mean, there are still problems in Afghanistan, how can we hope for a better development in a post-war Iraq when currently even Afghanistan is far away from being a more stable, democratic country?
And if such a process fails in the Iraq, wouldn´t that mean the world has to face the same problems again, when another dictator comes to power there? So, what plans have the USA for the Iraq once Saddam is out?

Is it really playing well with the average German?

Iraq does have one thing going for it that Afghanistan doesn't. Iraq is much richer.

Maybe it's an election tactic. In Germany there are some leftist which are very anti-american, and if the election is very close Schroeder hopes that if he cracks some anti-american statements he is hoping to have some leftists voting for him.
