I'll leave the obvious conclusion to that theory to Sneak's cheesy imagination.

On the subject of cheese...
Why is it so difficult to get decent Parmesan round here - we keep buying different brands, but they all end up like tasteless rubber, for Parmesan...
So Finbar, where o where do they hide the good stuff...
There's plenty of the legit stuff around. You'll pay $40+ per kilo (or part thereof). I'm just trying to think of somewhere close to you. If you want one of the better cheese selections in Sydney and you feel like a trip to Pyrmont - Simon Johnson Providore, 181 Harris Street, Pyrmont. It's a couple of hundred yards up Harris Street on the LHS, North of Pyrmont Bridge Road.
Apart from that place ... I'll give it some thought. There must be somewhere closer to you.
SJP has an internet site and you can order through the site. If you order a perishable like cheese, though, they sting you heavily for a delivery fee. The address is www.simonjohnson.com.au
It's delicious even just to browse!

No wonder I'm being attacked for my gluttony...you people are obviously deprived down there.
Must have some lousy gardeners and public servants to have such a food crisis.
If only there was some writing talent to tell the world of your dire need for foodstuffs. Must not be much of that around either.

That's the top-of-the-line stuff as per the vintage date. I've got bona fide RP - with the stamp on the rind, et al - for around $40/kg. We bought a slab of it over in Leichardt the other week.
There's some other stuff that's expensive here too:
Bread (all kinds!)
Cherries
Cucumbers - and they all seem to be Lebanese!
Mushrooms
etc...
Guess food prices are a very seasonal thing here...
Lebanese cucumber is a variety - as you know - rather than the (as it were) source. It's commonly called "burpless" cucumber. I certainly wouldn't do my weekly shop at SJ, but it's great for the hard-to-find imported stuff.
I have an idea. I suspect you should pop over here one Saturday morning and we can take you over to Leichardt. Pick up some RP. There's also a t'riffic fruit and veg place - high quality, very reasonable prices. Also show you the blissful AC Butchery, which really is an assault on the senses ... :drools:

Camelia bush still there?
As I type this, yes. There's just a tad less of it than there was when you saw it. It's going to disappear branch by branch, ugly red flower by ugly red flower. One day Mrs finbar will walk out the back and discover it's not there anymore. And she won't even know when it actually went.

Can't you just arrange for it do die in an unfortunate burning accident?
Tell her you were out burning all the unpublished porn you've been secretly writing and the bush got caught up in it.
Mission accomplished, with the added bonus of her adulation for your moral decision.
