I agree, Saint Marcus. It is perfectly illogical, even within the context of science fiction, to believe that the Jedi Council, particularly Yoda, could fail to perceive that Palpatine and Sideous were one in the same person. However, there was a lot of discussion in the movie concerning the ability of the Dark Lord to mask certain things from the Jedi Council. Perhaps we are to believe that Palpatine could hide his identity from even those who should know him so well.

Why is it illogical? The Dark Side clouds things. The force becomes foggy, and the future cannot be seen. The Dark Side can be felt, but the future becomes a muddled mess. It was there in the Phantom Menance and in AOTC.

        • But the Jedis knew Sid Dyas, or so they say. they must recognise Palpatine then, right?

          • Jedis have no idea who Sid Dyas is or was. Obi-Wan was bluffing.

            • Have you people considered that Sid Dyas was merely a nom de plume that Sideous used in ordering the creation of the clone army?

              • No .

A nom de plume would have to be significantly different. Sid Dyas, I think was a misprounciation of Sideous by the Kaminoans.

If it was a mispronounciation on the part of the Kaminoans, why did Obi-Wan use the exact same pronounciation when speaking to the Council?

BTW, when Count Dooku mentioned that a Sith Lord was in control of the Glaactic Senate did he mention the name Sideous?

Why shouldn't he? You could see Obi-Wan almost tripping over the words Syd Dyas when he said it back. He didn't want to give them the real name.

Unless you think that Syd Dyas was an old Jedi who became Darth Sidious when he turned?

Or maybe it was just another Jedi lie .

                    • Jedi and the Force

There is no need to use the force to figure out the Palpatine is the bad guy behind it all when simple deduction will do.
“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”

I believe in the force completely. To me, the force is the spiritual essence that binds the universe and all living things together. To qoute Lenny Kravitz, "I am you, and you are me. Why's that such, a mystery? If you want it, you've got to believe...". I think prayer is synonymous with communing with the force. People from the Biblical era and other periods who executed miracles and other great works were people who knew how to commune with the force, they knew how to speak to God. If each of us tried, in our own way and at our own speed, to commune with the force, the world could be ridded of evil very quickly.

Star Wars is correct: the Dark Side muddies things, it makes us see unclearly. It is the muddied picture of the world which creates hatred, greed and fear. But the Light "will set us free".

Didn't you people see the Evil Eye(tm) Yoda was giving Palpatine at the begining? he suspects something is up.

Egads, you people actually think Obi-Wan was told that Darth Sidious placed the clone order? The name he was given sounded totally different. Whoever he was, that Jedi was obviously respected by Yoda and Obi-Wan, and had died over ten year before, in fact before the order could have been placed. So the big mystery was who really ordered the army? The answer seems obvious (ie Darth Sidious or his underlings), and given George Lucas's inability to make a plot line to save his life, probably is correct, but we never find out.

Anyhow, I'm not going back to double check that. I give the movie a rating of Cheese. (that's less than one, but better than 0). I should have known better, but I wasted an hour of my life due to the fact someone had a free ticket.

Of course, it was only an hour because I don't consider the climax to be a waste of time, just of money (which I didn't pay).

I believe Obi Wan was told by the Kaminoans that Darth Sidious placed the order. Syo-das isn't that different at all.

It was "Sypho-Diaz", not "Syo-das". And yes, the Jedi Coundil seemed to be familiar with him.

Anyone else besides me notice that the Jedi seem similiar to the Gestapo? "Jedi Buisness", after Kenobi slices off Zam's arm.
