  • Gee you think in the future people would learn of the role that mobile armor and air superiority play on the battlefield. The Republic had it in clones, and the empire apparently forgot about air superiority on Hoth.

    • Can someone please post the exact words uttered in the conversation between obi-wan and the kaminoans, and the ones uttered by obi-wan and the jedi council when talking about the clone army?

I don't recall the exact words, but I know that when I first watched it I didn't get the feeling that sipho dyas was sidious.

In the 24th century, where starships can destroy entire planets, and target specific locations at will, any kind of large groundforce deployement seems rather useless. A starship can simply scan for enemy locations, and destroy them from orbit.

and weapons for groundforces in star trek? I think so far I've only seen phaser pistols, rifles, bazookas, mines and blade weapons. We do know there are hoppers, a kind of futuristic helicopters.

Spray: In the Siege of AR-558, Sisko beamed down to AR-558 to find a Starfleet garrison, not a group of naval officers, who had held a Jem'Hadar communications relay for five months.

DinoDoc: IIRC, the Starfleet ground personnel also found themselves on the recieving end of Morter, and they had none!

I wouldn't call TIEs the most aerodynamic of Fighters. I also bet they were kept in space to intercept any Rebel ships that might break out.

Couple problems with the Federation overrelience on Starships:

          (1) There may be exotic metals that may interfere with sensors and transporters. It's certainly happened enough to prove it's a common theme. Enemy forces may be able to set up countermeasures that'll screw with sensors, as well.

          (2) For Political reasons, the Federation often times cannot opt to blast away at a planet from orbit. Especially if there is a large civilian population. Therefore, the Federation would have to use ground forces to retake the planet.

          (3) I'd like to add "sniper rifle" to your list of weapons, the weapon I'm refering too was clearly designed for covert Ops, though.

          SPOILER FOR TREK X!!!!!

Supposebly, we're going to see a heavylift shuttle and the Federation's version of a Humvee in it.

They had been requesting evac for approx. 5 months, Lonestar. Given that fact, it isn't suprising that they would be under supplied when Sisko showed up.

How many times have you heard the line. Captain [insert techno bable here] has interfered with our sensors and we can't beam down to the planet.

Anyway. I finally saw AOTC today. It was definitly better than TPM, but still not on par with the ANH or ESB. However, the final duel between Dooku and Obi wan/Anakin/Yoda was outstanding. I loved how Dooku smacked Skywalkers ass with the force energy. and then the scene where Skywalker was fighting with two sabres was cool too. The battle scene was good and it was good to see some new battle droids. Dooku is the most interesting character in the trilogy so far.

I see that Lucus couldn't resist putting at least on of his kids in the movie, but oh well.

                • I've seen the movie 2 times....The Kaminoans definatly pronounce it "Sypho-Diaz".

Exactly! It is their mispronounciation of Sidious. That is the extent of what is considered subtle for Lucas.

                            I think so .

Why would Sidious even give his real name?

I think they're called the Imperial Guard. AFAIK, they're just the elite Stormtroopers. Probably these are the ones with good equipment (supposedly the reason for the Stormtroopers notorious accuracy problems is their shoddy rifles).
                              More of those Rome parallels.

They don't, though. They way they pronounce Boba was not the way it was pronounced in the other movies, for instance.
