Of course, I like to think of that big mistake as evidence of an already existing underlying weaknesses.
Dom Pedro II - 2nd and last Emperor of the Empire of Brazil (1831 - 1889).

I truly believe that America is the world's second chance. I only hope we get a third...

America has already fallen, we just don't see it yet. It is being propped up by an illusion of prosperity that is based on paper shuffling. Someday no doubt the economy will do something unexpected and greed will take over and complete the destruction. When we are weak and the dollar loses its value our many enemies will take advantage of us and despise us for our weakness as they despose us now for our strengths.

It will end when we are attacked and conquered first by ourselves and then by an enemy who has some type of weapon of mass destruction.

America has shown over the past 226 years, we can overcome any adversary, whether it is economic, political, or military.
        wow. 226 years.

Funny how only Americans consider that to be a long time.

226 years of existance is a joke. 50-100 years of being a world power is also a joke. Hell, even Holland can boast those stats (existed for 434 years, world power for about a 100).

        Some Americans are funny

Yes, it is hilarious. Maybe sometime after our fall, we too can be satisfied with past greatness instead of striving for it in the future.

That is the idea of the EU, to be able to compete on a level playing field. Lots of smaller nations coming together, so the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

Actually that's the whole world(or Midgard to any contempories out there) that will first be scorched by the Giant Surtur and his hordes and then cool to space-cold Ice as entropy and the forces of chaos defeat the old world powers of life and order.
I think America will be included in this.
God cheer up, life's too short

I was just thinking about this. Well if you consider world powers and the succesion so far: Rome Colonised Britain. Who Colinized America. She needs a heir first. next pattern: Rome ruled th land for the most part as Britain did the sea and America does the air. therefore it will probably be a space colony that is it's destined succesor, one with an awesome (eventually) space fleet. (i might be wrong on anything i've written here but i'm pretty sure i'm right)

                  • Hmmm, the discussion in this thread has wandered away from how America end to if it will end.

No, we won't, and that is the basic difference.
Thanks for highlighting it for us.

                        • Obviously, America will fall one day when Novaya Russia, under Grigor II, invades Florida through Cuba. Only through a daring raid back in time will we be able to prevent the tyranny of the Russians!
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

ummm. Approx 20-30years before all coastal cities(east and west) will be under 10-15feet of ocean and all the insurance companies are as sunk as the land This of course applies to all coastal countries, so maybe i've gone off-topic.
It's a nice irony that America's Corporate greed may be its undoing. I'm going to buy a house on a high mountain

EDIT: I should add that its the 'Worlds' Corporate greed as much as America's to blame, just as the biggest modern polluting nation they should know better - but then when has mankind been good at looking forward to the consequences of our actions.
