I'm impressed. Your comments before this didn't show it though.

I was seriously considering getting the gamecube (I have an N64),
No you didn't. You heard that Microsoft was making a console and your decision was made.

but then I read about the hardware it was packing, and then looked at the game list.
Online access and hard drives for consoles scare me because it screams patches, IMO. Please correct me here.

Nintendo TARGETS youth with the Xbox. I mean, look at the thing. You can't deny that.
Nintendo targets youth with the Xbox? Do you know something I don't? Although, it would explain that uncomfortable controller. One would have thought Bill would've caught on to that.

My comments always mentioned how Nintendo was TARGETTING an audience. They admit it. That has not changed, Nintendo's primary and target audience is children.

No you didn't. You heard that Microsoft was making a console and your decision was made.
Why does everyone always assume that from me?
Contrary to popular belief, I am NOT a MS Zealot. I don't automatically like something made by MS, although many of you automatically hate something that is made by MS. I don't use IIS, I use Apache. I don't use ASP, I use PHP. I don't use Visual C++, I use CodeWarrior.
Bluntly: I use what I like.
I happen to like Windows (especially XP), so I defend it when clueless Linux zealots bash it.
That being said: I think the Xbox is one kickass console. It's powerful, it's got tons of games coming out, and has way more features than any other console out there. If you're going to argue that...well, good luck.
The only possible argument that can be made against the Xbox is game choice. Many people prefer the types of games on GameCube (I'm not one of them). PS2 and Xbox seem to have the same types of games in general, but Xbox is a much nicer box. That made my decision.

Online access and hard drives for consoles scare me because it screams patches, IMO. Please correct me here.
        No problem.
Unlike your computer, programs are not installed on the Xbox. The executables and program files are all stored on the DVD. The Xbox is NOT a DVD burner program, it CANNOT patch those DVDs. NO PATCHES.

Uncomfortable controller? What are you ON?
It's VERY ergonomic, have you even TRIED it?

It looks ugly and bulky, but it sits perfectly in your hands. All the buttons are acessed without feeling awkward, and NO NINTENDOTHUMB. It's great.

Then where do these add-ons you mentioned come into play.

Yes, I have and I've talked to other people who've used it.

Erm...levels and data files are not executables or program files.

Yes, I have and I've talked to other people who've used it.
Different strokes for different folks, then.
The Xbox controller is like the Gamecube's but bigger and with more buttons and nice features like the inline release.

Maybe the people you talked to just had really small hands? The Xbox controller is designed for mature hands (18+) while the Gamecube's is for 6+.

                I'm assuming you mean Gamecube.

                Well, let's see:
Their marketing person has stated several times that the target audience is the "loyal" kids.
Their physical design is a large purple cube with cutesy purple controllers.
Games like Luigi's Castle and Super Monkey Ball are launch titles.

You said Xbox. You might want to edit out that typo.

As is Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader. Which along with my look at the game list was the deal maker for me.

                    Blegh, fixed.
Is your argument so weak that you resort to semantics? You knew what I meant.

I hope it's as great as the N64 Star Wars games.

                    • Sorry Asher can't back you up on the article, never saw it. Doesn't mean it's not there though just haven't read the paper recently.

Regarding the controller, I managed to get my hands on it, and it is very similar to the Sidewinder. Which every game magazine seems to think was THE controller to use from MS.

Please don't remind me of those stinkers. Thankfully according to the reviews, it's better.

Oh, not as much as you'd think. I'm so used to a Keyboard at this point that I stumble around like a drunk whenever I try to use a Mouse or a joystick.
