internet multiplaying isn't available now, is it? if not, it's a huge reach to start hoping for demos and patches on xbox. again, you should start seeing that in the next batch of consoles that have support and plans for online features going into launch. The reason that never happened on the Dreamcast is because Sega went down the sh*tter. They don't support it anymore, they don't have the money to fund that kind of stuff.
MS is loaded, wants to break into this whole scene, and has money to burn. Plus, they've already got a really good infrastructure set up for free online play (www.zone.com?)
pokemon was a one-time thing, then?Actually, they don't anymore.
Average gamer is something like 24 now.
it's an AOL News article, in the archives. somehow I doubt I could link it, or you could view it. I guess you could check aol's site, but you wouldn't find it.Link, please?
And of course a PS2 product is probably going to sell more than an Xbox product for this holiday season: Look how many more homes have PS2s in them than Xboxes right now. Again, one of those "duh" comments.
it's valid, I'm not crapping around...
no, not even halo. Not even Halo?
That there shows you just how much you should value their opinion.
ok, tell them to copy/paste it...They don't post the vast majority of their stuff online, and I don't see the Xbox review there.
But there are posters here from Calgary (November Adam, flubber, Zylka, etc) that can tell you that there was, indeed, a 4/4 star review on the Xbox.

Xbox has built in ethernet (broadband) and a hard drive. It's ready for online play, they're just building up the internet gaming backbone for launch in Summer 2002 with such titles like Unreal Championship.
I have no idea what you're getting at.
'Average' does not mean 'All'. And Nintendo has the younger audience, so you should take the 'Average' gamer figure and subtract about 12 to get the Gamecube/N64 average gamer figure. I know, I know, Nintendo is trying to change that with games like Resident Evil 4 exclusive to Gamecube...but let's face it, as it is right now, it's largely a kids console and viewed like one by the public.pokemon was a one-time thing, then?
Wasn't that "list" made by what kids wanted?it's an AOL News article, in the archives. somehow I doubt I could link it, or you could view it. I guess you could check aol's site, but you wouldn't find it.
ie: small children?
ie: Probably Nintendo users?
Having played Gamecube today, and talking to several friends with Gamecube's, it's pretty much widely accepted that Halo was a better launch title for any console in a long time. I mean, Luigi's Castle is basically a technology demo (not very impressive one at that): Let's vacuum ghosts and do boring puzzles to find more ghosts. Rinse and repeat.no, not even halo.
Super Monkey Ball: Maybe I'm just not into that kind of puzzle game.
Rogue Squadron II: Okay, this is the only game I'd want to play again. I will admit it's a good launch title, but I mean...single player only.
Halo totally kicks its ass as a launch title.
DOA3 is quite possibly the best Mortal Kombat/Street Fighter game out there, Project Gotham Racing is just great, Amped is getting rave reviews. I think the launch lineup was pretty great.
Where I live, our newspapers don't come with copy/paste functionality for our computers.ok, tell them to copy/paste it...

"market experts" or something along those lines. probably just a bunch of old people who waste time thinking about this all day, but that'd still be more accurate than 'nintendo users'.Wasn't that "list" made by what kids wanted?

People want gamecube and PS2 for now, that's all I'm saying. Patches? Didn't I already discuss that?
I'm content with all of the demos loaded on Xbox discs as it is right now. By the time I'll need updated demos I'll get to download them.

Was this the aritcle you mentioned, Wiglaf?Research firm votes Xbox as most anticipated console this holiday season.
November 19, 2001
Marketing research intelligence agency ChangeWave Investment Research has released the findings of its holiday buying survey today, and the Xbox has come out a winner. While 28% of the 859 respondents of the survey mentioned that they would be spending less this holiday season, initial sales of the GameCube and the Xbox have shown that, at least in the case of games, sales are going strong this holiday season.
When asked what new children's toy or game item they were most interested in purchasing, surveyed buyers put Xbox top on their console list, with 8% mentioning their interest in the system for the holidays. PlayStation 2 came in second at 7%, with the Game Boy placing third with 3%. Surprisingly, GameCube only garnered the interest of 2% of those surveys.
Surveys don't instantly translate into dollars, but if this research is any indication, then the public has spoken out about their favorite game system for this fall, and it's the one and only green machine.

LOL@Asher
Xbox games, save Halo and DOA3, have been getting trashed in the reviews. Xbox will most likely bomb worse than the 3D0. Where on earth do you get this ridiculous notion of Xbox being more than a niche console-pc hybrid? This is a masterful example of idiocy at it's finest.
The proof is in the pudding my poorly informed friend
AAA PS2 exclusives at present
Metal Gear Solid 2
FF X
Devil May Cry
Twisted Metal Black
Grand Theft Auto 3
Ace Combat 4
Tony Hawk 3
Onimusha
Xbox titles that almost qualify for AAA status
Halo
DOA3
Perhaps you are famillar with some of these games?
There are statistics you can't argue with. Feel free to quote some obsecure web site article to try to refute me, but your efforts will be in vein.http://monkspider.blogspot.com/

Xbox is flying off the shelves (CompUSA is sold out nation wide) despite MS's efforts to keep the shelves loaded.
The graphics the Xbox is capable outdo the PS2's. Easily. Compare Gran Turismo 3/MGS2 to games like Halo, DOA3, Shrek, Blood Wake, Oddworld, etc. No contest.
Second: Every console has a niche. Duh?
Sony's was the "mature" gamer's market.
Nintendo's was the "children's" or "young adult" market.
Xbox is aiming for the mature gaming market too.
I remind you that launch titles are usually fairly weak. The Gamecube's are rather lame right now (only good game is Rogue Squadron II, and even that lacks multiplayer). PS2's was downright pathetic (Ridge Racer V, DOA2, NHL2001 being the highlights....
)
To say that the Xbox already has two great games out gives you a pretty good idea of what the selection's going to be like.
Okay, so the Xbox has been out 5 days and already has two AAA titles. The PS2 has been out a year and it has eight.AAA PS2 exclusives at present
Metal Gear Solid 2
FF X
Devil May Cry
Twisted Metal Black
Grand Theft Auto 3
Ace Combat 4
Tony Hawk 3
Onimusha
Xbox titles that almost qualify for AAA status
Halo
DOA3
What is your point?
Look at the PS2's launch titles and compare them to the Xbox's. No contest.
Oh, BTW, Tony Hawk 3 is not a PS2 exclusive. It's also on Gamecube, and it'll hit Xbox soon too with a graphics upgrade.
It's quite clear to me that you own a PS2 and just want to feel like the competition's going to flop because YOU think you made the right choice. There are statistics you can't argue with. Feel free to quote some obsecure web site article to try to refute me, but your efforts will be in vein.
PS2's not going to flop, Xbox's not going to flop, Gamecube's not going to flop. They're all going to coexist for a while, although I have my doubts if Nintendo is going to try another console. I'm hedging my bets that after the Gamecube they'll go into software only (like Sega).
But if it makes you feel better about your choice, feel free to keep trashing the Xbox and calling me ignorant."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Here are some reviews of your beloved X-box exclusives...what a launch alright!
These are taken from IGN.com, which you have referenced numerous times in this thread, so you can't try to say it's not a reliable source. .
Cel Damage 6.5
AirForce Delta Storm 6.2
Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee 7.4
NFL Fever 2002 7.9
Shrek 5.6
Dark Summit 7.9
So much for your theory of Oddworld being the second coming of christ!
That stinks compared to even Gamecube's launch games, much less the labyrinthine collection of AAA PS2 games.
Here's Game Cube's lineup, which fared CONSIDERABLY better than the 3D0, errr, X-Box
Batman Vengeance Action Pre·Order 8.1
Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 Sports Pre·Order 8.0
Luigi's Mansion Adventure 7.0
Madden NFL 2002 Sports Buy 8.7
Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader Action 9.1
Super Monkey Ball Puzzle Buy 8.3
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 Sports 9.1
Wave Race: Blue Storm Racing 9.2
Can we say, Microsoft is gonna lose a lot of money on this?

Do you not understand what 'Pre-Order' means, dumbass?
Here's the full list for the non-retarded, these ones are on store shelves:
Shrek 5.6
NHL Hitz 20-02 8.0
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2x 7.5
4x4 Evolution 2 7.1
Dead or Alive 3 9.4
NFL Fever 2002 7.9
Halo 9.7
Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee 7.4
Project Gotham Racing 8.8
Fuzion Frenzy 8.3
Madden NFL 2002 8.6
NASCAR Thunder 2002 8.5
Test Drive Off-Road -- Wide Open 7.0
Cel Damage 6.5
Dark Summit 7.9
Sure, there are some stinkers on there. But way less than PS2's launch had, that's for damn sure.
Here's the Gamecube's launch lineup:
Luigi's Mansion 7.0
Madden NFL 2002 8.7
Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader 9.1
Super Monkey Ball 8.3
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 9.1
Wave Race: Blue Storm 9.2"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Xbox is flying off the shelves (CompUSA is sold out nation wide) despite MS's efforts to keep the shelves loaded.
- Of course it's flying of the shelf! They only were able to publish a virtual thimble full! It's not hard for one or two copies of something to "fly" of the shelf.
The graphics the Xbox is capable outdo the PS2's. Easily. Compare Gran Turismo 3/MGS2 to games like Halo, DOA3, Shrek, Blood Wake, Oddworld, etc. No contest.
-Says who? You? That's your opinion but there are plenty of others who would see things differently. From what I understand X-Box, theoretically at least, has the most graphical potential, but that potential is wasted if the games can't take advantage of them.
Xbox's launch titles beat PS2 hands down.
-PS2's launch wasn't very exciting, but Tekken Tag, DoA2, NHL, Madden, SSX, and Ridge Racer beat Halo and DOA3 any day of the week.
To say that the Xbox already has two great games out gives you a pretty good idea of what the selection's going to be like.
-Yes, a couple decent but sadly unorginal titles, if you want innovation look elsewhere.
It's quite clear to me that you own a PS2 and just want to feel like the competition's going to flop because YOU think you made the right choice.
-Actually I will almost certainly own all of them inevitably, I even owned a Sega Master System back in the day. I would wager any ammount of money that even if X-Box doesn't flop, it will be the least successful of the three major systems right now.
But if it makes you feel better about your choice, feel free to keep trashing the Xbox and calling me ignorant.
-The brutal irony is that what you have been doing this entire thread, I am merely trying to implement the age-old "*** for tat" system here.
