Not really. As I said, I don't think even the White House was retarded enough to think that Saddam having chem/bio weapons was somehow a real threat to us.

A civil war is nastier in degree than any other type of war. The winner will be the one willing to do what is necessary in the most effective degree.
It's not so simple the way you make it out to be.
In our civil war, the South fired the first shot, and they were considered the aggressors. Secondly with the release of the Emancipation Proclomation, the Union's credibility went up about 5000%. The war had two clear justifications.
This war had a justification based on a lie.
The paradox that you don't get is, by attacking "the basis of support," we create more enemies, as our intel there sucks, and figuring who is who has been problematic, at best.
If we were really ready to "do what is necessary," there would be another 700,000 guys on the ground there.
So what we have is a situation with:
1) No moral justification
2) A half assed amount of resourcesWe the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution. - Abraham Lincoln

The Sunni Arabs would have practically no chance of winning a civil war - i.e. taking over the country (unless we decide to reverse our policies and prop them up), regardless of whether Allawi uses death squads or not."Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. I think they said the threat was to regional stabilty (read Israel and Saudi oilfields). At leats that is what I understood since noone ever said Saddam had a missile that could get to North America.
Again, I don't think that the WH was delusional enough to think that either. The general idea sold to the American public was that Saddam was in league with al Qaeda, who would use the weapons. But as I said, that ain't the real reason either. And, since this is totally off topic and I don't want to threadjack my own thread, I'd like to continue this somewhere else or preferably, not at all.
I was just asking Dan for his justification."Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way. "

At this point Iraq isn't going to be peaceful based on nice words. Allawi is going to have to do something to restore 'peace', and speeches probably aren't it.(\__/)

Those who idly toy with the idea of invading Canada, may wish to consider the War of 1812 song, available here: http://www.deadtroll.com/1812/index.html
