  • Out of interest, how exactly do you not see Iran coming out as the big winner in that scenario?
I think the Iranian people will be a big winner in that scenario in the long run. Najaf's star is rising in the Shiite world, despite being nearly destroyed. Qom's star is falling in the Shiite world. The Iranian government's legitimacy is tied to Qom. Further, we may get more secular Shiites in government than we had hoped for. Despite it all, Allawi isn't polling so badly against Sistani's list. They may split the vote. That would be a splendid outcome, to my mind.

If a partition happened, then Basra would also assume a great deal of political importance at the expense of Baghdad.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I would be absolutely shocked if Allawi's list gets anywhere close to as many seats as Sistani's (barring any fraud). I know that there was a poll that showed Allawi's list getting 4/5 of what Sistani's list got, but I've also seen a poll that showed Da'wa alone getting nearly as much as Sistani's list. Bottom line is that I wouldn't put any money on that prediction of yours.

I didn't predict anything. I said they "may" split the vote.

                    • I'm not the one who gave up with "are you listening to yourself?" and then wasted a whole page on an aside.

                      thanks

Besides, your slavery point is moot.

                      Try a different tactic amateur.

I'm flattered you're following me around again though. Seems you enjoy the concept of bootstrapping at many levels.

You predicted that the Shia splitting their vote was a reasonably likely possibility.

No, you're the guy who kept it going. You seem to have an inflated sense of your place in the cosmos. Following you around?
