I think I said this would happen back when the Mac people were talking about the Real store as being a choice...

Apple is far more ruthless than MS is, which is why they'll never be as successful as MS. MS walks a fine line, one that most customers find acceptable and reasonable, and Apple alienates the vast majority.

I'll note the irony with this situation is that MS is the one offering choice of vendors and offerings, and Apple is the one suing and fighting off any competition they may have.

I dont know why this is a surprise to anyone, these are typical Apple tactics i.e. controling their users.

They just took a page off the MS playbook.

What suprises me the most, is that this didn't happen earlier
This space is empty... or is it?

I can't see Blue Mountain greeting card notification e-mails contained keywords popular with spam. Amazingly, that occurred right after MS launched its own online greeting cards service.

Of course, you neglected to mention that, after Blue Mountain had sued Microsoft, a patch miraculously appeared to rectify the situation.

Apple's just doing what it has always done. Try to lock in users with hardware then deny then choices from competition.

That was started after the launching of Lisa/Mac. Before that, the Apple II's were very open computers. Heck, even Microsoft made a CPU card for it.

You couldn't see how unsolicited email could be considered spam from a 1998-era spam filter?

All the patch did was add Blue Mountain's sending email to an exception list.

Which is something they could've asked MS to do in the first place, rather than just suing them...

I was criticised heavily when I called Real's actions a hack on Apolyton.

It's funny that now those same people are giving to this comment, conceding that I was right.

Both their actions are clearly legal. It's just that Real's move was good for consumers and Apple's move is bad for consumers.
